Ppl, im gettin really confused as regarding this matter....
i wanted to attach either a normal pickup or a mike pickup
for my guitar,(its a black hobner f-cut guitar)
so as to amplify the sound output of my
    acoustic guitar...
i tried out both the options & i liked the actual pickup,
which i guess it is the one which goes under all six strings...
but the problem arose when the shopkeeper told me that
i would either have to stick it with glue or would have to
permanently screw it up to my guitar & also that he wud
make one more hole at the base of the guitar to give the
jack for output so that the wire would not be left hanging
    out...
So,being my first time at doing such a thing...i wud like
to seek advice from u'll...as to whether it is safe drillin few
holes into my guitar...??!!or should i go ahead with the mike
    pickup??which sounds a safer option...hehehe
i dont know whether drillin a hole would alter the sound
    output of the guitar....
& yeah 1 more thing...he said that drillin the hole & doin
all that stuff wud cost 400 bucks...
    wht say guys...???
    help!!!

hi coolteen, the other day i was also seaching for some posts on this topic and i came across a thread(i dont remember by whom!!!) which dealt with his prob. it was in paki section. i suggest u search for it.
also there's a site called zatang where u can follow the links to this prob.
as far as i kno.....it's always better to screw the pickup.....less hassle. and the shopkeeper is correct....u have to drill a hole. i already have it in my guitar( signature jumbo).
i have heard the soundhole pickup on 1 of my frend's guitar and they work very well. they generate less of "hissin" sound as compared to the mike pickups.
even im searchin for a good soundhole pickup.......u have got a much better option there in mumbai. its very difficult to find a good pickup here in chandigarha nd are far too xpensive.... i mean 400 bucks is ok if the pickups are good. but be sure u do some research before u go and drill a hole n ur guitar.
    best of luck

Hey coolteen .. Go for da magnetic strip pickup .. i mean da one dat fits below da six strings .. wid a wire to plug into da system .. u'l have to screw it on ur guitar .. but dat ain't no problem .. n regarding da hanging wire problem .. u can always put da whole wire inside da box of da guitar thru da hole .. :) .. hope it helps ..

hi nottylad, how much did that pickup cost u? i also wanted to ask u that if i connect my pickup directly to my pc(multimedia), will that work alleight or do i need to have some amplifier or something.

Da pick up cost me Rs 350 .. n yeah ..

FOR A MUSIC SYSTEM : Directly connect da pin where u connect da mic .. n ur guitar should play in da speakers .. :) (sounds amazing.. i disturb everyone wid full volume)

FOR A COMPUTER : Connect da pin to line in hole .. n then u can record stuff thru pick up without amp.. but for playin in da computer speakers directly .. i donno how to do it ..

    anything else ?

hie everyone am planning to get a dreadnought guitar...without a pickup ...coz have seen many reviews that guitar wich have pups 4rm the very beggining are nt that gud...so was planning to get an external pickup...i want a decent pickup wich sounds like an unplugged guitar..and doesnt sound lyk acoustic...my budget for pups is 700-800rs...
