Mr. Scary's above post (in another thread) gave me an idea to start a new thread.

there are bands i like a lot have only one complain about - that they haven't dished out a lot of stuff. like say third eye blind. with PF i cant say that they havent dished out a lot, but thing is i have gotten used to it somewhat.

so this thread is about connected bands. bands, which may not be quite, but almost are, like some other ones. like Scary said Agalloch are the modern day Pink Floyd. most pink floyd fans would, after reading this, like not to leave the Agalloch (wtf band name is that anyway? does it mean anything from mythology or something) stone unturned. me for one.

hmm so does anyone have suggestons for a band thats got pearl jam's brand of grungesque nihilism but sounds slightly more pleasant.

and can someone give me a few suggestions for another band with a R.E.Mish feel to it.

i am sure there will be some suggestions for the above queries, as also i am sure that other IGT-ers will want to know about possble "clones" of bands they dig.

    i feel honored.

Agalloch is a homo name in my opinion, suppose to be an "ancient" name for oregon.
anyway i said that because this band seriously reminds me of pink floyd. But dont go expecting them to do their own ****ing cover of comfortably numb or something.

yeah i came close to adding such a line in my first post - that most probably the similar sounding band will only be a shadow of the main band in question - esp. if its mega bands like PF.

this may freak you out, but the first time i heard a song called "silent lucidity" i didnt know who were playing.. and i thought it must be some floyd song i've never heard before. anyways i came to know that the band was Queensryche. later in RSJ, in the "classic albums" section they featured "epmire". there amongst the lowdown was this piece of trivia that when one of the band members first heard the song (alpha verson recorded by the others), his first reaction was that it had a distinctly Pink floyd feel to it.... (so ya see, i was afterall, in good company for making the mistake)

ok now i knwo what agalldgglecachgcdacdsapdjqpfyheqccchh is. ty.

but which bands could be a poor man's pearl jam and which could keep the REM flag flying?

    Smells Like Nirvana
    by Al Yankovic

    Lyrics:

What is this song all about?
    Can't figure any lyrics out
How do the words to it go?
    I wish you'd tell me, I don't know
Don't know, don't know, don't know, oh no
    Don't know, don't know, don't know...

Now I'm mumblin' and I'm screamin'
    And I don't know what I'm singin'
Crank the volume, ears are bleedin'
    I still don't know what I'm singin'
    We're so loud and incoherent
Boy, this oughta bug your parents
    Yeah

    It's unintel-ligible
I just can't get it through my skull
It's hard to bargle nawdle zouss
With all these marbles in my mouth
Don't know, don't know, don't know, oh no
    Don't know, don't know, don't know...

Well, we don't sound like Madonna
Here we are now, we're Nirvana
    Sing distinctly? We don't wanna
    Buy our album, we're Nirvana
    A garage band from Seattle
Well, it sure beats raising cattle
    Yeah

And I forgot the next verse
Oh well, I guess it pays to rehearse
The lyric sheet's so hard to find
What are the words? Oh, nevermind
Don't know, don't know, don't know, oh no
    Don't know, don't know, don't know...

Well, I'm yellin' and we're playin'
    But I don't know what I'm sayin'
    What's the message I'm conveyin'?
Can you tell me what I'm sayin'?
So have you got some idea?
Didn't think so -- Well, I'll see ya
    Sayonara, sayonara
    Ayonawa, odinawa
    Odinaya, yodinaya
    Yaddayadda, yaaahyaaah
    Ayaaaaaah!

he also matches the voice (and the look in the video).. really cool!
