I dont think Top Gun theme is Van halen. I'm not sure who it is but i think it is Chris impellitteri.

so many ppl mistake topgun theme to be played by Van halen.its played by Satch.u can actually make out Satch's style of playing and that scream with the tremolo.

 

NO the top gun anthem was played by Harold Faltermeyer and Steve Stevens!!!!!!
