i think in the song it's better to hold 1st string G while playing Em7 (like wonderwall, oasis). it sounds good when u riff or hammer.

C9 is holding conventional C + 1 string G note with 4th finger.. rright??

That's Cadd9

C9 consists of 7th note too (Bb).
x32333 will be C9.

But in both cases C major chord itself suits as the song tune takes care of the 9th note and 11th note.
