But any way.. I quite like your list.

I would not have a top ten but these are some of my fav;
Eric Johnson- Hills of Dover
Eric Johnson- SRV
Jeff Beck- Cause we have ended as Lovers
Deep Purple- Child in time
Deep Purple- Highway Star
Deep Purple- Smoke on the Water
( I can jsut go on oand n abouth Deep Purple and Black more)
Pink Floyd- Comfortably numb
Pink Floyd- On the Turning away
Fee- Alright
nazareth- Love Hurts
wow I can go on o and on and not stop

 

My Idea is that songs without solos are the best.

Thats my opinion, yours may or may not differ.

stairway solo i feel is the most overrated solo eva..and so is he sweet child o mine..i mean ..the solos are good ...but the dont deserve so much attention

my number 1 solo wud be hotel california -eagles followed by freebird- lynyrd skynard

Go listen to the Stairway to Heaven again but this time for a change listen to it like a musician. It's one of the most amazing songs even written with phenomenal song writing skills and the solo breathes. You should hear it breathing and if you dont, then you never heard the solo and for you it might be an easy one to play. If you hear it right, then you know that this ones will takes you years to actually play it. Getting notes to breathe in a solo is not a joke. If you think solo is just a bunch of notes, then your guitar playing would be doomed forever. Start listening to between the notes and that's where great players shine and you will stop talking about jokers like Michael Angelo and Alexi Laiho....

Yea and I love the solo in Stairway to heaven.. Infact the whole song is very well composed....
P.S. Do you know that Jimmty Page used a Tele on that song.. you can here the TELE very clearly .. Infact Jimmy used a TELE on the first few Zepplin Albums for clarity....

guys..i aint sayin that the solo is bad nal..yes ..the stairway to heaven solo is amazin ...yes..it was written by really talented ppl ...yes .it is one of the greatest songs eva put together .

but come on ....do u think it was worth bein awareded song of the century ?
do u really think the solo of stairway is the greatest solo eva written ??.

and ..ron .to answer ur question ..i have heard the song and the solo a million times ..both as a musician and a guitarist ..and the solo indeed does bring a vibe in you and u do feel somethin wen he plays it ...but ...and this is my question really.. is it the greatest solo eva ???...doesnt the hotel california solo make u feel anythin ???wat abt the sweet home alabama solo ....wat about any of jimis solos .... i mean...to just call stairway to heaven solo the greatest i feel is wrong ....

and ..yes...to master any solo..and i mean even if it is a 20 sec solo..to get it exactly like the person who orignally played it wil take yearssssssss and probably close to impossible..hell...EVH cant play eruption right now the same way he played it like 20 yrs back.....

 

Going by your notion any "greatest" solo will be one of the greatest? So are you saying we have multiple greatest solos? Or that any picked greatest solo is just one of the well..greatest? Barring all this, which one do you think is the greatest? We'll save a whole of time this way. And can EVH still play Eruption? Dont know, i thought he was quite old.
