    Though I have voted for jimi Hendrix...(The God of guitar)
    But one thing to say is..:think:

    Choosing the best guitarist depends on various factors like
    the kind of music one likes..
    A person who loves blues , don thnk wud enjoy hendrix...but will njoy Clapton..
    There are also names like
    John McLaughlin
    Al Di Meola
    Paco de Lucia
    who are champion composer and guitar player of jazz and blues.

    So it would be ideal if this kind of poll be categorized to what genre of guitar players..

    I would pick Jimmy out of all these. Because I guess he was an Inspiration to all those below him in some way or the other.

    You can say concerning :

    1. Shredding - Michael Angelo Batio (though he sucks like hell)
    2. Technique - Jimi Hendrix ( undoubtedly)
    3. Tapping - Steve Vai (have another look at tender surrender)
    4. Class - Eric Johnson
    5. Popularity - Slash
    6. Melody - Joe Satriani
    7. Stamina, Knowledge, Clean PLay - John Petrucci
    8. Style - Brian May
    9. Best Bluesman Ever - Rory Gallagher

    and we still have, eric clapton, jimmy page, paul gilbert, duane allman, frank zappa, les paul, ritchie blackmore, eddie van halen, angus young etc. !

    BUt over all, no , never ever !
