    Hi All,

I have recently gone into basses, but being a beginner couldn't figure it out how bass actually is played.
Please some one give a demonstration how to play bass generally for basic songs (with basic chord progression).

    And,
I have been across some extraordinary bass patterns like in most of IR songs.
Eg. 1. Boopalam Isaikum poomagal oorvalam
    2. Ninukori Varnam - Agni Natchatiram (almost all songs in this movie)
    3. and many....
    and
    2. Yuvan's Iduvarai from Goa,etc

How to build up such patterns too?

    Thanks in advance.

Answer is, you won't be able to get bass tabs for Tamil songs. It's easy for people living in TN to find the local Bassists and learn IR style songs.

I got Rajesh's midi from the link https://sites.google.com/site/rajeshannamalaisamy/rajeshmidis which displays the keyboard notes of each instrument being played. You can enable the Bass guitar only and see the notes. But it is tedious to transcribe the keyboard display. I am going for private lessons and learning western bass covers, it's not as interesting as IR songs, but it helps me learn the pattern and the progression. Controllong the string noise itself will takes time. It's going to be long way for me to catch up IR songs on my own. If you happen to learn some songs pls share it in youtube. I can grab the notes by hearing and seeing where it's played from the video, I don't need tabs.

Thank a lot for your reply. I would try with the MIDI you sent. As you said, I need no tabs too. Just the technique to play, though I think it takes quite a long time to get that. Pls share if you have some techniques for western bassing too. So that ppl in this forum ll feel great..

As you might know, chords and bass lines are inter related. Same in western also. Mostly in Tamil they play R 3 5 (R - Root) along with the drum pattern. Here the bass lines like different melody within the same bar and the same will progress with the chord changes. I had been given some fingering exercises, As we already play lead guitar, I was using IR songs like paadi vaa thendrale prelude as my part of my exercise. My experience with the Bass is around three months. Can able to play Kaadhal anukkal, nenjukkul peidhidum, june ponal etc. Mostly if u play the root note of the chords, u will easily get the groove. Composed my own bass lines for nani koni, it sounds better than the original. ARR, HJ bass lines are mostly simple. Most of the IR bass lines are challenging, I wanted to play devanin koyil. I'll post some you tube links for beginners song, mostly from Beatles. Try activebass.com, you'll get plenty of tabs for exercises. Ear training exercise also important. I hope this will give u a good start. If you r able to transcribe any song the midi, pls let me know. With midi editing software, you can just get the sheet music of the bass track. Share with us if u able to get one.
