Hi, I am a very beginner in playing guitar. Appreciate if someone could let me know how to play chords for a given song. I have the chords for 'Raath kali ek kwaab mein ayi'. I am pretty much comfortable in moving from chord to chord like E to A and then to D and back to E. I am not really getting the feel of playing the song as I have no idea how to rythymically sound the chords while doing the song. Hope I was clear on my question. please please help. Thank you bros
I am new to chords too. Here is my experience so far. If you have some money to spare, try buying a lower end Yamaha keyboard for around $200. You can play chords on it and it will also display which chord you are playing. That will give you a sense of what you should be looking for as an output from your guitar. One more thing - it could be the lack of other parts of the music (like drums) which are making you think that chords do not match. Keyboards have pre-recorded STYLEs which plays drums etc to match the chord you are playing. And a chord and associated music remains active till the next chord is played. As a result continuity of sound is maintained. Hopefully that will give a good sense too. Good luck
Check the attachment. If you have any questions, ask me. Basically u don't need to know all the chords, the majors and minors and sevenths will do for the time being.
Ok, your question was how to strum chords? Basically, that has to come naturally. Some people might give you some strumming patterns. But its much better if you get the patterns on ur own by listening to the song. Practice and it wont be very tough.
Thank you cshe108 and esgallindeion. I did get some boost out of your replies. Last night I played the song 'Ek ladki bheege bagisi'. I just played the melody and I felt very good. I mean it was like yes I can do it. Tonight I wanted to play the chords for this song. Do any one of you have chords for this song. I also wanted to ask, when one plays the chords, are the chords strummed both ways (up & down) or how does it work. Also I have little difficulty not knowing what to do in between the chords. I don't have the chords for 'Ek ladki ki Bheegi bagisi', so I am using the chords for the song 'raat kali ek khwaab mein aayee' as an example. in here, should I strum the same chord in a rhythmic pattern until it changes to another chord? E A E D Raat kali ek khwaab mein ayeee E aur gale kaa haar hui again thanks for all your time
Thanx esgallindeion, This is the best thread ever seen on IGT. U have helped me the most. If I ever win an Emmy in my life, u will be the reason.
i between chords you ca strum all the stings in the open position play at a low tempo at first you dont need to worry about strumming patterns just come up with a pattern, like- U U D D U (thats up and downs) learn some easy progression with the pattern
what esgallindeion and ambush said is correct.. u shd listen to the original track and try to play along with it.. u wld come to know the strumming on ur own...and as ambush clarified..practise chord progressions..that wld help u a lot.. good luck!
