Am I not? Am I not contributing to the political system that is supposed to provide aid to these people? Do I not vote? I am probably more directly responsible for their plight than I am for the general lack of interest in other sports.

no ur not - bcos u vote 4 who u think is the best candidate & u hope he wil do his job [ie. feed the starving] but if he doesnt all u can do is not vote 4 him next time -- u cant bring down his govt in the normal course of ur day-t0-day life

wot u can do in ur day-to-day life is decide whethr to watch a cricket match or a soccer match - 4 the cricketer ur decision is just sum loose change -- for the soccer player its like his whole career depends on ur decision

Precisely. In this context, an idealistic justice hangup does not hover over mine.

I loved that poem though it took me a while to understand even what little that I do now.

dude ur gettin me wrong...its not an "idealistic justice hangup"

indian cricketers, the BCCI & their MNC sponsors r playin indian public --- thats u & me -- for SUCKERS

while laughin all the way 2 the bank -- last year indian cricketers made Rs 520,000,000 & thats only a fraction of the BCCI budget
    https://www.eians.com/stories/2005/08/15/15lead.shtml

& thats apart from celeb endorsements etc etc etc

u may think its a matter of national pride when india/pakistan wins/loses ...THATs the real "idealistic hangup" ... but ur livin in an "ad-sponsored dream world" ---

    this is reality
    https://www.abc.net.au/olympics/2004/results/medaltally.htm

even freakin zimbabwe, serbia-montenegro, estonia, cameroon, mexico,ethiopia...... get more medals than india .... wheres national pride???

    *interrupted by pepsi commercial*

n btw i love cricket lolz - i used 2 b th fast bowler on m college team - but im sayin all this cos thers a big diiference between a cricket lovin FAN & a cricket lovin FOOL

    agree wid u.

Cricket has been the fav source of entertainment for our country, is and wil be.

no m8r how much u curse the game, beng an indian u hav 2 be addicted 2 this game. and so am i.

but i earnestly wish.. the salary of the cricketrs be reduced to 1/4th of wht they r earnin now (evn aftr tht they get 2 earn a lott coz of advrtisements n all).

The rest of thr salary be invested in othr games whr thr r plenty of talentd youngsters who cant prospr due 2 the lack of propr equipments n infrastructure.. most of thm r way too poor.

funny how the indian team gets invited 2 hav tea wid the prime minister aftr winning a series while the TT playrs, chess playrs, athletes, etc, evn aftr bagging medals outside India don evn get a simple reception.

cricket is a game plyd by a handful few countries.. india ranks 3rd-4th-.. wotevr among the 9-10 nations.
Olympics, football r playd by almost the entire world. india ranks in the -ve.

    last Olympics status for india.
    0 1 0
its a shame.. with a population so huge whn a country bags just a single medal while countries wid 1/20 th of indias size wins 20 times more medals.

really baffles me wot the fck wud the sachins, gangulys n dravids do wid crores of bucks.they shud do some serious charity instd of some occasional ones they do once in 2 yrs.

nywys havin said all these, i wud be eagerly waitin for the nxt one day mtch ;)..

nywys comin 2 d triangular love affair betwn ganguly, dravid n chappel..

i wish ganguly be made 2 sit for some 20-25 games at a stretch.

whn ganguly captnd the side, whthr india won or india lost.. the eternal scapegoat was ganguly.. lets not go into whthr he deserved it or not all d time. thts besides the pt.

it wud be relly nice n amusing to see who gets the match ka muzrim crown whn india r bck 2 thr losin ways
bishen bedi is hopelessly jobless since the day ganguly was sackd frm the capn post n frm the one day team. hihi.

it was ganguly who once upon a time fought really hard 2 keep "test playr" dravid in the ODI team.. he evn made dravid play the role of a wicketkeeper in ordr 2 get him in2 da 1day team somehow.
it was ganguly who pitched in for chappel for the job of the indian coach.

now they r both payin bck ganguly and wid interest .. hihi

nywys.. ganguly isnt all dat innocent.. he can blame himself for the condition he is in today, ya some ungrateful companions n bad luck didnt help his cause eithr.
but he needed 2 be droppd once 2 make him realise no 1 is indispensable n the team comes frst, not the individual. but wot followd aftrwards can happn only in india. hehe..

we all knew dravid as the most reliable batsman. he's a vry reliable politician too ;) and so is his dad.. erm.. sry coach

well.. evry dog has its day.

& ya.. jam.. TOI has alwys been a die hard dada fan & supportd him no m8r wot. hehehe. so wotevr they publish is gona be in support of dada n not dravid/chappel.. not dat i mind the least.. but its a fact. :)

all these r jus my opinions.. no need 2 get wrkd up guys. jus read my siggy ;)

since you did not end the argument when you said you would....

I shudder at your logic. By choosing to watch a sport that I enjoy, I am actually harming other sports. So instead, I should watch a sport that bores me to death, kill the original intention which was to get entertained and stop watching a game that interests me?

I'll tell you something better that you can do. Why don't you sell your television set? From the money you get for it, why don't you give a few rupees to a beggar outside your home everyday? For you, it'll just be the loss of some entertainment but for the beggars, it's like his daily supply of food will depend on your decision.

This statement above is what I call the idealistic justice hangup. Your logic is based on a very socialistic setup where you basically say that I should not help the rich get richer. It is indeed a noble thought....socialism always was....but then again, it was also inherently flawed like your logic is.

But you see.....I don't mind being taken for a sucker if this be the case. I am prepared to pay for the entertainment I get from a cricket match. Why is that such a problem for you or anybody else?

    oooh....witty!

Actually, judging by your logic, there isn't. You haven't left a line to divide the two. You've only just made a blatant statement and put me on one side of it and yourself on the other.

    So you had.

Yet again I disagree. It isn't the cricket lover who is the loser. The cricket lover felt a tinge of disappointment, got over it and lived his life happily ever after.

The idiots went in for destruction, the politically motivated went for effigy burning and demands for Pawars resignation and the sponsors went for a weep.

What I was trying to say all those weeks ago is that you can have passion for the game and still not be swayed by the media and even if you're swayed by the media and went and bought a 5 ruppee pepsi band, strength to you. It's still your money and I cannot tell you how to spend it (which is what you were trying to do).

Quoting myself from another thread....you'll find our views don't differ as much as the thread suggests.

Why is everybody holding Chappel responsible? Indian team sucks and the players came true to their expectations.
