    practice practice and more practice. The more time you dedicate to practicing, the faster you will pick up things.

    first step will be to start listening to songs which has tons of guitars in it ... by that i dont mean u pickup Malmsteen and start listening (better if u do so ;)) ... but just simple plain songs where u can make out the guitar being played ... something like "Hotel California" ... :grin: ... almost everyone who started playing guitar listened to that song ...

    in parallel u will havta learn the chords (atleast the commonly encountered ones - like the ones mentioned in this thread ...

    now u try to get the chords for the songs u have been listening to ... u may get it from here ... or from google/clusty/any other search engine u prefer ...
    and play the songs ... try to be as close to the original song as possible ... here your non-playing friends will help ... (yeah u will havto sing along coz many ppl cannot recognise a song just from its chords) ...

    if your frends find it acceptable ... then probably it is acceptable ... and lo you have learnt a song ... (plus a few chords nd chord progressions) ...

    ok my advice pick u an easy song the easeiest guitar song with easy basic chords
    try to get the strumming pattern

    then start to strum one chords after the other

    try easy songs like lucky ali's oh sanaam

    it has G C Am E i think

    but if u r an absolute beginner try tabs first to adapt ur fingers to fretboard!!!!!

    @farhana

    lets hope this ends your confusion.

    the f major chord implements what is caled the great barre shape. in this shape you stretch your index finger flat across the fretboard parallel to and just behind a particular fret. then you use your other fingers to finger the remaining positions. for example in f, you stretch ur index finger across the first fret, then put ur middle finger on 3rd string 2nd fret, ur pinky on 4th string 3rd fret, and ur ring fing on 5th string 3rd fret. then you see you have executed the chord exactly the way its written, without using five fingers.
