Power chords = punk rock chord (as quoted by Paul Gilbert)

Usually powerchords are root note and 5th.

    Graphically:
    e---
    b---
    g---
    D---
    A-5-
    E-3-

    This is G5 power chord

But to add more meat, you can add one more note (octave):
    e---
    b---
    g---
    D-5-
    A-5-
    E-3-

You can also play it inverted (that is the 5th + octave, no root note):
    e---
    b---
    g---
    D-5-
    A-5-
    E---
