hello, I'm a beginner and i've been learning completely on my own. I started with bass guitar rather than the six-string one(an unusual route). Anyways, I've learnt all chords-major,minor,seventh I'm familiar with most of the scales and can tab simple songs using major scale. The main problem is that I cannot identify the notes or rifffs/arpeggios played by bassist in any song just by listening to it. So I've to follow tabz and I'm in a confusion whether to follow strumming pattern of rhythm guitarist or the beating of drummer when you create bass line yourself. And, while picking the notes should one pick the root notes corresponding to the chord being played or play all the 3 notes. I hope to get a satisfying answer by some pro-guitarist/bassist "One man's misery is the other man's mystery"
i'm not a professional by any stretch of the imagination but i've been told that the bass guitarists job is to marry both the rhythm to the drum beats. Most songs have the root of the chord being playing on the bass but then thats not a advanced bass level. That's all i can add without getting inaccurate about things.
