Tube amps are not neccesarily good... my friend had one which took 5-10 mins to start depending on its mood :p

    Playability

You are talking about sound not playability
And i'm not suggesting crap amps
just great guitars with good amps instead of decent guitar with mind blowing amp

    Disposable :p
I just meant you can play a guitar through your philips comp speakers and add effects using something like Guitar FX Box - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com if your cheap beta amps tank
but you can just sit and look at your amp with your guitar in the repair shop

i meant nothing technical just that adding stuff like better pedals/processors/pickups creates better sound
also buying a new amp is much cheaper than buying a new guitar
also keeping two amps one(15W) for home jamming one for gigs(50W) makes sense
however two guitars doesnt cause you get used to them...
thats why no matter how good you are at a song you tend to make mistakes on a guitar you havent played before

You said it not me :p
come on a basswood costing five lakh is gonna be better than alder 70k
anyway thats not what i meant
personally i prefer mahogany over everything else
and yes unlike everyone else i dont think basswood is crap
but Basswood to ayu is a Big NO because of the musicians he is trying to emulate

but unlike the others... no one recommended them...

    @everyone else
why are people so obsessed with amps and processors and pedals!!!...
they should only accentuate your playing style not become it...
i still dont get how you guys can recommend getting guitars which dont *feel* good while playing just for a larger amp budget

You said you only wanted to play around with tones before you figured out what you wanted. I offered a more practical solution. I don't see the point spending money on an amp that's not a 'one time investment'.

I was being sarcastic. It's cheaper to switch out pickups than it is to buy a new speaker.

Well if you have the money then it's your prerogative to spend it as you wish, buying a 75W amp to play with tones and then buying another one when you're sure about what you want. As far as analogue goes, it's still solid state, not the 'tube' distortion that most are looking for.

What made you decide on the Focusrite Scarlett over the Mackie Blackjack, if you considered both. Are you having it brought down from the USA?

    tell me that was sarcastic.

maybe because they realize they contribute a lot to your tone?
your playing style would change if you changed your guitar also, thus the same could be said of that. people that have played with multiple amps and guitars realize, that they are both super important for certain tones. Jimmy page and slash use Les Pauls, why are their tones so different from one another? because of all the gear that follows the guitar in the chain.
I don't think anyone is recommending that, but they are just recommending that you get a guitar that "feels" good with a lower budget.

The next amp I will buy will probably be a tube half stack :D anyway that's another story for another thread after maybe a year or two.

Back here I just had the final talks with the shop owners the things that stand as of now are
Bhargavas: Godins in stock, vypyr 30 in stock, no prs, no ibanez s, av6 in stock,
Musicians Mall: Ibanez s570b in stock cost 35,500, no prs, no other brand, vypyr 75 available, tsa15h available @ 25k
    Furtados: they suck
Segno: no prs here, one godin, and no amps
There seem to be no prs and no laney available anywhere

Well playability is as subjective as appearance. So no one person's suggestion is universally acceptable.

Why not a good guitar with a good amp?

Right, and what happens when your expensive guitar is in the repair shop?

You're saying anything now. Adding items to the signal chain is not the same as upgrading the amp. All your pedals will still sound bad through a bad amp. Pickups are part of the guitar, by the way.

There are guitars and amps that cost lakhs of rupees, neither one is cheaper than the other.

Plenty of people have more than one guitar. I might own one to use in drop D and one in standard. One because I want the thick sound of a humbucker and mahogany wood body and another for the bright single coil and ash wood body. Being able to play any guitar reflects your ability, not some external influence.

It's funny that the one thing you're concentrating on is going to be the least of his worries in trying to emulate the musicians.

That's why we talk about the best within a given range. We have deepsal for recommendations that fall outside everyone's budget.

Because just because they don't feel good to you doesn't mean they don't feel good to everyone else.

After you guys helped me in shorlisting the Interfaces I spoke to this guy Austin from "Sweetwater.com" whom i was introduced to by another friend of mine. That guy has posted several reviews about Audio interfaces and Mics on that site and i suppose is also one of the Admins there and a good friend of my friend. Thats how i finally decided to go with Focusrite since you all were +ve about it too. Coz he mentioned that he has couple of his friends who were using it and he has personally tried and tested it. And the quality is worth the money. However i didnt ask him about "Mackie Blackjack" coz i didnt find any deal on that on BestBuy.com. I wanted to save some bucks to be frank. And i got a good deal on Focusrite on bestBuy almost 39$ less. Couldnt find Mackie on the site.

Also that guy suggested Rode NT5(219$) over the SM57(75$) thinking i wanted to record Acoustic guitar over the Mic. Lol(huge price difference)...But then he said SM57 would be a great mic for recording but not that great for Acoustic guitar. I have not ordered for a mic as of now.

Yes my friend is coming in Jan from US so he will get it along.

It's usually seen for $149 on most sites, are you saying you got it for $110?

The SM57 is a great all round dynamic mic, and it will do acoustic guitars decently enough for most purposes. But of course, more specialised mics are built for certain instruments/settings. Where is the 57 selling for $75, Best Buy?

i want him to shut his crap
and buys a good guitar by trying that himself
considering every guitar below his budget crap

^no that is not true, i have recommended stuff to other people too with budgets around 15k mark it is just that there are very few guitars that are decent around that price range. I have always recommend pacificas, epiphone sg special, greg bennett tr3 and av6 and some others. I dont suggest anything to anyone that i wouldnt buy myself even if i had that budget. And remember that i had too started out with a similar budget of 15-20k a few months back but then i had to increase it as i did not find any decent stuff in that range. And i dont say anything just for the sake of it. There are always very good reasons to not recommend something. I dont even say anything about something i have not tried.
