I assume you are referring to a Coral sitar. I don't think you can get one anywhere, though you could ask Cliffy if anyone wants to sell one second hand. However, the Line 6 Variax has a very good simulation-I've played 'Last Train Home' on it and it sounds perfect. You can't retune the sympathetic strings, though, of course. Also much cheaper than buying a Coral sitar. It's availabel at Bhargava's and Musician's Mall..try it out and see if it works for you.
Thanks a lot for that reply. Quick question - who is cliffy and how do I contact him? Also, do you know a luthier who might be able to construct an electric sitar (without sympathetic strings) using a sitar-like bridge? I'll check out the Line6 Variax.....
Cliffy is a second hand guitar dealer who has some very nice stuff. 9821009451 There are a few luthiers around of varying quality. However, I doubt they can make a buzz bridge properly...I think it requires specialised machining. If you can get hold of a buzz bridge from somewhere, I think quite a few people can make one for you, since the sympathetic strings and tuners are standard issue piano parts. Erisa in Pondichery is the best bet (expensive). In Bombay, Peter Pereira and Alberto's can do some stuff..not the best finish but passable.
