@bandbaaja.................i cudnt get the song, but i think the basic strumming should be :

    1-&-2-&-3-&-4-&
    D---D-U-D---D-U

    correct me if am wrong.

ya smriti the pattern is right, WELL DONE

but the timing is not a 4/4

you have to take a 12/8 timing (blues pattern)

where instead of the 1-&-2-&-3-&-4-&, which splits the 4 into 8 parts,
you have split the 4 into 12 parts as mentioned below

    so you count
    ONE - 2 - 3 - TWO - 2 - 3 - THREE - 2 - 3 - FOUR - 2 - 3 -

    so its
    1-----2------3-----4-----
    1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2-3-
    D-----D---U-D-----D---U-

generally these type songs are good when the strumming pattern is like twist

twist pattern is down and up and that goes slowly according to the rythm. or else u can even try march beat like down and down but it should be smooth... or else it spoils ur mood

silly me......... i actually wanted to ask about this timing ............but forgot it..........the simple fact is i dont get it. the way i hv bn playing is, listening to a song n if my strumming is what i hear, then am quite happy. never paid attention to it, i mean the theory part. its today in the morning only that i found myself in an awkward position in putting these Ds n Us with proper numerals :) ............but then i knew that u wud correct it........thanks bandbaaja......n ya i use the same for pukarta chala hun main.....is it ok??

    hey srujan
its not a twist or march pattern
the twist march pattern is a 2/4 pattern

    Yes Smriti
the same pattern HAS to be used for songs like PUKARTA
Other songs in this pattern that i can think of right now is

    Inteha Ho Gayi - Sharabi
Pukarta Chala Hoon Mai - Mere Sanam
    Nakhrewali - New Delhi
Nasha Yeh Pyar Ka Nasha - Mann
    Huzoor-e-ala - Page 3
Kya Kare Kya Na Kare - Rangeela
    Fiza - Fiza
    Dilbara Dilbara - Dhoom

and many more (sigh) i cant remember now
