mentos+ 'diet' coke = better spectacle than Old Faithful ... dissolve some aspartame in diet coke (sugar alternative a.k.a canderal) and mix mentos with some rock salt .. absolutely magnificent!! lol yeah .. been doin this thing with my mates this summer .. got a few videos as well i might put them on youtube ... speaking of youtube .. its down at the moment :| .. i watchin this macbook review and suddenly it went offline! now i cant open it ..

I agree, if you really want the coke to have a exploding effect like that try it with diet coke. The normal coke would just give you a fountain effect. We tried it in the office long back and got three feet lift from the normal Indian coke. P.S Don’t try drinking coke along with the Mentos.

Clarifications: By "Indian Coke" i meant normal coke what we get here. I dont think we any longer get large diet coke bottles those in the market are imported ones. And you need a diet coke bottle to fully experience the thrust power.
@neo: yeah i got the idea ... by the way its 'only' diet coke that works .. see if you can find the 'mythbusters' (which happens to be my all time favourite prog) on dailymotion.com where they explored this phenomenon in detail .. very very informative!
It works with normal coke aswell. We tried it with 500 ml bottle of coke and it worked but you get far better result with "diet coke".
And what if you drink, say a litre of coke and have some mentos thereafter? Will the tummy be "upset".
