Hi Thamboo.......can't remember when I last heard this song! A little gem by IR with nice harmony. Forgotten and overshadowed by other legendary classics from this movie I guess! M7 and m7 chords are used quite a lot in this song. G#m7 and F#M7 for eg. Will try and post my version soon. Rajesh :music:
Here's what I could get. There are 2 or even 3 chords at 'வானெங்கும்' alone but I couldn't figure it out. Intro: F#...F#M7... wow... what a composition again by IR sir. This is an underrated song.. which should have been a massive hit... with present day music channels....
Vow Rajesh, I felt that there was something missing in the chords though they were sounding close(in my earlier posting), the psychedelic feel is obtained by the Maj 7 & Min 7 Chords, I can feel the mood of the song when I hear the Maj 7th chord, your chords are more fuller, but playing them really takes great skills at guitar, Thank you very much for the embellished version. This song exposes the mood of a hippie, ராஜா ராஜாதான்.
As you said that there might be 2 or 3 chords in 'வானெங்கும்' alone, there are chances that they might be a walk up diminished seventh chords, these dimished seventh chords are very common in Jazz Songs, the beauty of these Dimished chords is such that the interval between the 4 notes is always a minor 3rd, Cdim - C Eb Gb A(Root, minor3rd, flattened5th, & 6th), the chord what you have given is half diminishedCmin7b5(C,Eb,Gb & Bb). One popular song where I have encountered Walk - Up Diminished seventh Chord is "Michelle" by "The Beatles". Usually these diminished chords sound dissonant but when used properly will add unique beauty, let me try those walk up in this song today
Excellent effort, Rajesh. Thanks for bringing it to the forum, Thamboo. Amazing song, did not appreciate the beauty of it earlier.
F#Maj7(F# A# C# F) and A#min6(A# C# F F#) are enharmonic, both versions have almost same chords in the intro(fyi), keyboard accompaniment may make the guitarist work easy while playing C#Maj and D#min back to back towards the end of verses in Roentgen chords, my playing skills are limited at that point
It is dissonant! A G#m would probably fit better. I guess IR used it to create a nice descending bass riff (C-B-A#-G#) at the beginning of the song.
Hi Roentgen, Please Check; I reckon it as an ascending bass (apparently evident i think so) (Eb)வா(F)னெங்(F#)கும்(G#min)
I meant the descending bass for the entire line - வானெங்கும் (Cm7b5)தங்க வின் மீன்கள் விழியிமை மூட (BM7)சூரியன் வந்து கடல் குளித்தேரும் (A#m7)நே.....(G#m7)ரம். It could be (Ebm)வா(Bdim/D)னெங்(F#/C#)கும் (Cm7b5)தங்க....descending bass Eb-D-C#-C. It is not an Eb or F. I cant see the these chords in this scale (there are no G or A notes in this song).
Thamboo & Roentgen, Both the chords suggested by you guys are magical in the Vaanengum thanga.. words. Thanks for the interesting conversation, I for one, am learning quite a bit. Rajesh
Hi Roentgen, (Eb)வா(F)னெங்(F#)கும்(G#min), here i meant only the bass notes buddy; not chords and G#min is where the chords actually begins; when you play Eb F F# walk up bass notes it fits perfectly to the song's melody, further playing chords in that quick succession is possible only on a keyboard and difficult in guitar
