Chords and tabs for the song "Andhi Mazhai Pozhigirathu" - A creative gem of IR

Let us see the creativity (musical) of the song “Andhi Mazhai Pozhigiradhu” from “Raja Paarvai”.

This number is one of the gems of IR’s musical hits.

Quite tough indeed - a lot of creative fusion is made into the BGM – A mixture of Carnatic and Western Music. You can also get the vocal raga aalapanai in the interlude.

The song follows the notes s m1 g3 m1 d2 n3 S / S n3 d2 m1 g3 r1 s – The scale of raga – Vasantha

The song is in A Major key.

In A Octave, the raga scale translates into A D C# D F# G# A / A G# F# D C# A# A & so does the chords

But the A Major chord progression goes like A Bm C#m D E F#m G#dim.

Hence to suit the melody, possibly the A Major chord progression is modified into

A C#m D F# G# / A G#m Dm F# G# A#m

So confusing – is it not? -------- Equally confusing for me.

Thanks Senthil. That is quite close. I will try the IKF version. I do not track this Forum. I like this song so much, I spent sometime in doing this R & D. I only tried Am 7 and not others. It is a good & complete information............. Sathya

 

Sathya, is vandhanam from vaazhve Maayam also based on the same raaga?

 

Yes. GA had copied this rejected tune of IR and used in his film. Rejected in the sense, this tune was not selected by the director / other stakeholders at that time and they preferred a different tune.

All GA's compositions were out of such rejected / not considered IR tunes only................ Sathya

The tabs completely follow the Vasantha Raga notes - no deviation. Given that there 2 raga based interludes, the song should be following the raga - I am not sure on this.

Sathya I have doubt in the tabs you provided.. Notes for the line "Theanil vanthu muzgum pothu..... Is right? I am not satisfied with that.. Rest is awesome.. I tried in different ways.. But not getting properly that line alone.. Pls help me..

 

Yes, this is the best tab position I could get. The line mentioned by you is too difficult to play in guitar. Just listen to the song - see how long they drag each word while singing. You can try some pull or slash techniques here. That is the best that can be done in places like this................. Sathya

 

Im sorry sathya.. How ever I try its not coming out well.. I tried with the song.. I may be wrong.. But can you pls provide tabs for that line in different notes? Also i feel it would be better if we play the fret 6 instead of 7 you given.. Check that also pls..

 

The line you have mentioned is tabbed in second and third fret and not seventh. The tabs for "Kettana" is wrong. It should be 6th fret and not 7th fret of the high e string, which is a typo error. You can correct that. Thanks for digging this out............. Sathya
