Hey guys! I am a N00b when it comes to guitar theory
Still, I am posting a lesson (I learnt it from Rock Discipline)...
This lesson is for the new guitarists.....
I have followed this lesson and it has helped me a lot! I ask the oldies and the experts to correct it for me if anything is wrong :) I have also made a small MIDI file which shows what exactly to do.
    Here it goes :)

This Xercise is for improving mainly picking style and also your fingering.
    Please note
Before you begin, and while you actually practice it, make sure that you.....

    1. Begin with some warm up streches.

    2. Practice as slow as possible. Don't try to play fast, or you will develope bad habits. Guitaring is all about speed and accuracy and when

you will develope the accuracy, the speed will automatically come.

    3. Don't waste your time, try to practice as long as you can. It will build your stamina.

    4. Play with a Metronome if possible. If not possible, then try to play every note equally. Or the accuracy will not come as much as you try.

    5. Use accent, i.e. pick every fourth note a little harder (For a 4/4 pattern, change the accent accordingly for other pattern). It will be

very handy when you will play very fast, because, when you will play very fast, you will not be able to hear every note clearly. You will

only hear the accents and will be able to understand the pattern. So the timing and accuracy will be much better.

    6. Pick UDUDUD.... i.e. Always pick UP DOWN UP DOWN. Never ever pick Two down strokes or two up strokes together. This technic is called Alternate Picking.

    7. Last but not the least... NEVER EVER THINK THAT I CAN NOT DO IT. THERE IS NOTHING CALLED IMPOSSIBLE. YOU CAN DO IT, IF YOU LOVE GUITAR.

Ok, let us begin. Play the undernoted notes, first slowly and then try to play it fast. I am giving the notes for C Maj. Play it in different

scales and make a suitable progression. It's basically

    For C maj

    E------------------------------------------8------12---------8---------
    B--------------------------------8----------------------8--------------
    G-------------------9-----------------9---------------------------9----
    D-------10-----------------10------------------------------------------
    A-------------10-------------------------------------------------------
    E--8-------------------------------------------------------------------

    E------------------------
    B--8---------------------
    G-------------9----------
    D-------10---------------
    A------------------10----
    E------------------------

Do it in a progression. Like, you can you this one for example.. C Maj, G Maj, D Maj F# Maj and back to C maj again! The fret numbers will

    change accordingly....

Listen to the MIDI provided for hearing what exactly to do ( I have made the MIDI for C scale only. For the whole progression, just keep

    playin' :D ).
    Any Suggestion/ Correction/Addition?

Why don't you learn to transpose. It takes a lot less time and effort. It also helps.

great job. another fantastic exercise from the great.

    @spy

why do u need the notes re? in the ascending patter its just the notes of the major barre shape, and in the descending the same with a third thrown in. just transpose the given tabs to whatever fret the barre is in, for example, for C major, it starts from the 8th fret on the 6th string, likewise for G major, start it from the 3rd fret, or for D major, from the 10th fret. :)
