    alpha1 I BLUES!

    Rerecord the vocals.
Vocals were on entirely different scale than the guitar chords

Though from what I could make out, the guitar chords seemed (sounded) correctly played.

    Oh dude, its difficult.
But first tell me one thing: which software are you using to record?

If you are using some multi-track recording software, then do this: import the original "about a girl" file and pan the track to left.

And then record your vocals on second track and pan it to right.

So when you listen both tracks simultaneously, you can compare the vocals, and where exactly you are going off.

    Nonono!
    Those are not multi-track recorders.

Get hold of Adobe Audition or Sonar Cakewalk.
