    MY TURN NOW:
    I have voted for Stairway.
    My whole idea of rating a song is based on simple rules:
    1) For all good reasons, you may have heard Stairway after Sultans, but try to imagine the time when it was released. NO one had heard anything like that BEFORE!!!
    SO as per the composition analysis goes, stairway is a lot more complicated to compose than say a Sultans of Swing.
    Mind you, I LOVE MARK KNOPFLER enough to appreciate even a f a r t sound coming from his guitar. This poll is not about guitar virtusos or singing greats.
    Its about the overall appeal of a song

    As far as good composition goes, all other tracks mentioned here are just plain simple tacks except of course Bohemian Rhapsody - great work. But we saw those shades already in Stairway.

    Hendrix again - COMPLETE NEW SOUND and VALUE to the ELECTRIC GUITAR, but VOODOO CHILE, apart from the WAH and playing? the song is pretty ordinary?

    apart from all this, the bottom line is that
    I think this is a stupid thread
    because there is no BASIC STRUCTURE to the type of songs that have been chosem

    or if there is,
    please explain Mr. FIRESTARTER

    well it looks wierd to criticise abt the list.....
    but Van halen---Eruption ...n Jimi hendrix ....All along the watch tower ,,, Leonard Skynard.
    wer to be ther....

    cuz i ve seen them in the Top song of All time...

    Anyway the list is full of classics so generally it would've been hard to pick, but then there's Zeppelin and the choice become oh so simple :D

    Well, my favourite would always be Stairway To Heaven. Played by my favourite band and guitarist, has great lyrics and has the best guitar solo. For me, what else could be better than that?
