    Hi Ppl !

This is a newbie to the forum and to guitars too.
I bought an acoustic guitar just 2 days back and dont know even an iota of how to play it!
Somewhere on the net i read that the metal linings on the neck of a gitar are called frets, and somewhere else i read that the spaces between those linings are the frets.... plz help me out as it was given that fingers of the fretting hand are to be placed on frets.... now wt is tht ?? the metal lines or the spaces b/w them???
    the question might seem 2 b very awkward ... but i m helpless :(
    plz help ..
    thanks
    Garry

i also hav a question, y do the distances between frets become closer as u go higher up the string, yet if u look at the next string up, the distance between the same 2 notes will b greater, (dunno if u get wht i seyin)... as far as i no, no other istrument has this, where the higher up u go, the closer the notes get, only string instruments seem 2 have this crazy thing

    frets are the metal linings..

when ur playing on the first fret means ur pressing the strings behind the first fret....in the first column......not the metal lines

frets r the metal thingies, so wen u play @ the first fret, u in fact play behind the first metal thing. the couting takes place from the tuing end of the guitar and u play on the tuning side of the fret

thats meant 2 say the counting takes place from the tuning end of the guitar

then the fretless guitars shud have one fret rather than zero fret

in a normal guitar..a fret is the space between the 2 metal lines..
for example..the first fret in a guitar wld be the space between the first 2 metal line..

one more questions comes to me .....

y the strings get muted when we press at the vertical fret lines...and y the frequency is constant between the two fret lines...

can someone recall these fundas from mechanics or som.. :nw: .
i have lost all of them : : ....

if u r 2 play @ first fret, u play between the first metal thing and the plastic part over which the string go towards the tunings heads. if u were to play at 2nd fret, then u play between the 1st n 2nd metal things, 3rd fret between the 2nd n 3rd things, n so on so forth
