    none of the above.
rock n roll is much older and has its roots in Blues and jazz and Swing.

The term Rock n Roll was first used in 1951 by Alan Freed, Cleveland disc jockey, taken from the song "My Baby Rocks Me with a Steady Roll".
    Checkout the link:

In any case your poll is missing the biggest star in rock n roll that ever was and that ever will be.. the king himself.. elvis presley.. Change the poll or I will give ya bad rep :p:

Although som pepole were in 1950`s who started rock music ......but it was premature form...........proper shape of Modern rock music (which is still being used) didnt come untill 1960`s
    cuz b4 that
ther was no 4-string steel bass guitar......which was invented by Jhon Paul of LED ZEPPELIN in 1969......b4 that the huge (violon like)bass guitars wer used

ther was no concept of elctric guitar which was introduced by Jhon lennon of BEATLES
    in 1960`s

ther was no metal n lead guitar until it was used by JIMI HENDRIX in late 60 `s
the rock n roll drums were different at that time
so the major instruments of modern rock music were missing till Led zeppelin in late 60`s who combined all the instrument of modern rock music which r still being used

    any comments???

huh? where r u getting your facts from???

the electric precision bass was invented by leo fender in the 50s.
and what do u mean john lennon invented electric guitar? if I remember a beatles interview correctly, he couldnt even string his own guitar, paul or george harrison did that for him.

Hollow bodies guitars with eletric pickups were preent as early as the 1920s.
les paul is credited to be the father of the modern electric guitar.
In 1945, Les Paul planted a 4x4 piece of pine inside a hollow body guitar and screwed pickups pickups to the solid part of the body, thus inventing the semi-hollow electric guitar
In 1950 Leo Fender invented the worlds first solid body guitar, the broadcaster, which was later to become the telecaster.
and i dont know on what u r basing jimi hendrix to be the inventory of metal and lead guitaring .. he was part of an early genre.. electric blues.. which included bands like yardbirds cream etc amonsgt others.
  8. the beatles made the rock music more popular n deserve the credit

from the list I will go with Hendrix, he was the first one who overdrove his amp and got the distortion guitar sound.

why do u want to know who started rock music???

its sound developed over a period of time...its not like one band started it or something....
  15. Bandbaaja

    Bandbaaja Pronounced Band Baaaa Ja

Some of these genres were TERMED after the music was created, and if you see the 60s & 70s, Beatles were POP and even Deep Purple was POP.
SO POP is not essentially a GENRE and ROCK is a VERY HUGE GENRE NOW.

BUT as far as my music listening years go and from the 8000+ rock.pop.jazz that songs I have, I think
MY GENERATION (1964) by the WHO was the first HARD ROCK sounding track made till then, and
HELTERSKELTER (1968) by BEATLES was the first METAL sounding harsh song ever recorded.
BORN to BE WILD (1967) by STEPPENWOLF has also been credited to be the first hard rock song.
BUT LED ZEPPELIN'S GOOD TIMES BAD TIMES (1969) was the first the TRACK to create the GENRE of HEAVY METAL

Man, are you stoned, ever heard of fender????! JPJ played a Fender Jazz Bass. And the first mass produced electric guitar was the Broadcaster (now telecaster) in 1950.

You should get ur facts right before posting.

Rock music "style" originally came from Africa..the heavy drum beats played by tribals in africa inspired this heavy form of music, which eventually got adapted by several musicians world wide..Guitars were added by western bands..but the whole idea of expressing in a aggressive style came from africa.

Commercially speaking ,dont think Beatles played Rock(never mind the electric guitars)..Led Zepp would be the pioneers to bring this heavy style of musical expression to the masses.
