which is the best classic rock band?

    apro..no dude..pink floyd can also be called progressive rock(or experimental)...when these guys had started they were playing stuff no one else had tried bfore..so progressive..their music was also called space rock/cosmic rock.

    I rate Dire Straits/MK the highest!
    And Metallica. Deep Purple just after that!

    P.S. Someone mentioned BB King! But he is supposed to be Jazz I guess right?

    GnR
    Led zepplin
    Ac\Dc
    Black sabbath
    Aerosmith
    Eric clapton
    I like all classic rock bands each and every one.

    Will someone start a new thread voicing their opinion on people including Guns N Roses as classic rock??...hey u knowwhat they started out around 87-88...i wanna add BonJovi, Def Leppard,Warrant,Poison, Fates Warning, Queensryche who all started earlier so they should be "more" classic right...
    Classic rock didnt have power chords and thundering bass and programmed drums...classic rock was music played without the almighty production of people like "Mutt" Lange...
    Classic rock brought guitars out in the forefront with blues rhythms...
    Some of the best were/are
    Mountain
    Free
    Cream
    The Who
    CCR
    Janis Joplin
    The Kinks
    and a lot lot more...

    and of course u can add all u'r more mainstream Led Zep a true blues oriented rock band, Deep purple, sabbath i would say were the forefathers of Doom and such...i dont have to elaborate more on this list i guess...

    Queen
    Lynard Skynard
    Blue Oyster Cult
    The Doors
    The Who
    ZZ Top
    Deep Purple
    Black Sabbath
    Dire Straits
    Kiss
    Grateful Dead
    Canned Heat (never heard many of their songs but saw their prformance at woodstock and it just blew me away)

    and i'll throw in the Jeff Beck group and cream and the Yardbirds just for fun
