I think another problem with metal fans is that they consider themselves some sort of group that has been persecuted over the ages.

Get over your delusions of persecution. No one "hates metal fans". They just think your music sucks. Just like you think their music sucks. Everyone has an opinion. They have a right to their opinion, you have a right to believe their opinion sucks, they have a right to believe your opinion that their opinion sucks, sucks. And so on.

Next. The performing arts is a tough industry. Nothing special about metal, rock or whatever genre you're into. Nothing special about even music. It's just the nature of the game. If you have a band and you want to live off your music and do nothing else, it's going to be a tough ride. I mean look at the people competing on talent shows on TV. They too are living the shitty life of auditioning for douchebags, living from hand to mouth and holding additional jobs hoping for their eventual "big break". It's just one problem further that you live in a country where 90% of the population doesn't listen to western music and 99% hasn't heard of rock or metal. Tough break kid. Don't scream out at the system. It doesn't care. If you can't change it, work with it.

Third, creative people will create whether or not they get paid for it. And I also agree wholeheartedly that you are going to sell out to commercialism if you're depending on it for your income. Nature of the game. You have to feed your family, the public wants something and it's the easiest decision in the world to give them what they want.

You are always free to follow your passion in your spare time. If you want to make it a career, good for you, but you better know the odds, the obstacles and the probability of never making it despite being the best band the world ever saw.

Ha...I'd know that better than anyone. My parents are both theater artists, veterans at that. They're good at it, probably the best in their circle, doing financially better than others in the field. Despite that, the art world rule applies to them - hard life (okay, not really), irregular earnings (practically inescapable), but fun if you can see fun beyond money aka the fun in living, and the fun in living the art (oh hell yeah).

Even in the house that i live in...most of my friends(i stay with 3 other ppl) dont like metal.. but still i manage to listen and play metal .. i go for gigs alone at times.. its really difficult to find ppl of same taste.. thats why i look around for ppl to jam with me and thats why i'm still here on this forum.. i donno wat i'm writin coz i'm drunk right now.. excuse me for any mistakes.. its friday night buddies..

I meant that a majority of so called black metal bands pretend to be satanist or "hardcore" or whatever the f*** that mask-wearing blood-spurting suicide-yelling bullshit is, to put on a show, attract emo fags who are just huge pussies who think yelling "I ARE TEH ANTICHRIZT" makes them cool.

I'm not too impressed by shock tactics. I believe that if these bands believed that much in their "message" they'd be spreading it out to as many people as possible by giving it away free. agreed, but that happens almost everywhr, in other genres, other industries, to make money u fool ppl a lot of times.... Dat brings bad name to the business, but u cant stop evrybdy on moral grounds. So there's no point accusing black metal fr it.
Still, there r a few bands who stay true to their ideas, it doesnt imply only satanism, in general.

 

metal is overrated. i like some of the music ( i have a very limited tolerance for metal - the metal bands i like are MAIDEN!, sabbath, metallica, pantera, opeth, DT (do they even qualify as metal?), periphery, meshuggah and justin timberlake). i think it's the fans that get my goat though, taking themselves way too seriously most of the time, while they're just very normal people who are trying way too hard to be different and to compensate.

4. justin timberlake is a guarantee for impeccable production. i'd never really heard his music and would change channels on instinct if mtv came on and his stuff was on... then came "***y back" and that intro blew my mind, hooked me instantly. the bassline, the drums, that song has so much ****ing GROOVE it's scary. that's when i started listening closely. still trying to figure timbaland's production style out.

5. for successfully reinventing his boy-band image without becoming a washout like robbie williams.
