Music was traditionally meant to be either dhinchak (for dancing) or a melody (for listening while relaxing).

 

Piracy is one factor for sure, but its effect is more on commercial aspect of music. I feel that with other medias of communication gaining poopularity, mainly TV and other visual media which can convey more information than audio alone, people naturally favoured it. This was fully capitalised by MTV genere.

Only those who really loved music stuck onto listening and I hope that most of them are still buying the original Cd's

We cannot point finger at one single curse, it is just a group of events that changes human society. But the brighter fact is that how we still love and can listen to music that was written hundreds of years back.
