Just come up with a simple strumming pattern
and practice diff chord progressions like G C D or Am C G......
Practice similar progressions for 2 or 3 weeks
Then pick out some simple song and try playing the chords for them

    I hope this helps

Honestly...I'm a newbie too..but i used this book called "Learn to play the guitar" they have provided a few simple songs with notations for appropriate chords...they help a lot ...you'll get used to shifting between chords in no time...(the book has 5 parts...since u know the basics I'd recommend book 4)

u cant possibly read sumthing and next day u get up and start strumming perfectly...it comes with some experimentation, practice and then lot more naturally!!...if sum1 tells u strumming patterns..that wouldnt be of much help either coz u cant get the timing of it that way

here are some threads created to seek help wid strumming u can have a look>>

listen to the song..play along wid it!!..after sumtime of practice u'd be able to make out the pattern on ur own!!..then as ambush said..choose a range of family chords and strum them, they way u know!!..it would come naturally to u!!...but remember...u need to dedicate sometime n practice wid patience!!

wasnt expecting any better reply from u!
