ummm i never said they have just one good album...Shogun is their best like Rust In Peace for Megadeth or Reign In Blood for Slayer....maybe u dint like the other albums...ur opinion again but i think all their albums r freaking awesome...in fact the one where critics said they sound like Metallica i.e. The crusade...i dont kno which riff sounds "metallica"ish nor has any1 ever been able to tell me which particular riff it was similar to...drawing inspiration from metallica is something which most bands do bcoz cmon metallica was the most influential band in the 80s... and never did metallica use 7 strings...and kirk can never reach the level of soloing which matt or corey does....nor can lars ulrich even come close to travis or nick's drumming....
very technical and skilled, of course, no one is taking that away from them (although there still exist bands higher in that regard). but are they really making any sort of music that hasn't been done before? and if not, then are they making it better than all their counterparts? imo there are better bands around and trivium is a good band but nothing to die for. two things have the ability to transform good music into excellent music: soul and innovation. while soul is subjective and plenty of that can arguably be found on trivium's sounds, they lack in the innovation department and eventually resort to what everyone else has been doing..which is the only reason i don't listen to them anymore. but i will give shogun a listen sometime this week :]
well i wud b crazy to call them the "most technical" band after listening to a horde of technical death metal bands....but definitely they dont write recycled metallica riffs....their composition are of much higher technicality compared to metallica(and compared to lot of other leading heavy metal bands of today) thats wat i mean....and definitely technicality can never be the reason to hear a band ....u always look for soul as u rightly say...innovation is something which is very difficult to find if u r looking for it in each and every band....its impossible for every band to invent something new always....look at guns n roses i dont think thats a band u will call very innovative...but y did they become a phenomenon is because they just used wat was already there and instilled it with a new fire and soul.... i mean as a guitar player too i have noticed that at one stage u 'll want to look for the fastest most brutal insane guitarist on earth...u look for great virtuosos like shawn lane, michael angelo batio, chris impelliterri etc etc who cross all barriers but when u come back and listen to slash soloing u find true soul there....obviously these virtuosos truly own their genius too but there is something which will always set slash apart although u mite not find any new innovation there... that something i find in Trivium... and really that makes me wanna die for them
agreed on all points with you there, completely see where you're coming from. if you listen to tech death you should check out this band called Ulcerate. they aren't actually "tech" as such but the style of music they play is pretty much the future of death metal. menacing, atmospheric, and filled with amazing riffs and chaotic drumming. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YCOIFL0w90 - check this song out from their latest album.
hah! can you believe i just discovered ulcerate a couple of weeks ago.....Started with Burning skies...they r \m/
