hey stoned survival , since you are practising scales - i would suggest you take up some finger exercises, you can find many finger exercises in the tutorials forum , just check them out , once you are familiar with the scale then probably you can practise more on timing and speed - remember at any given time you should not loose accuracy of the scales which is the most imporatant thing ...

paster of puppets roicks man... hetfeld was the master of down strokes... try to learn megadeth songs train of of consequences this was my life-. easy song.. but has a generic rhytym and style which u will find useful to use in many other songs. the lead is also very trhtmeic. one string alternate between open high e string and high fret notes.. verycool actually suits a rhythm guitarist. metallica song i would try: unforgiven-- easy satisfying rhythm, one , blackened, seek and destroy from kill em all is very good to begin with as well.
