When I roam around the dark and dusty corridors of IGT, I see signs of great splendor now fallen into ruins... Like at one time the city was full of hard-working men, pretty women and laughing children... And then some Spanish conquerers came and looted and raped everything.

Here lies a temple where the gold has been looted and the shrines have become caves for trolls to dwell in... The old town hall is now an abode for bats who like to shit from the rafters... And there are a couple of small houses where a few survivors still shelter, somehow escaping the massacre, and eking out some semblance of a living, not realizing that the hovel where they once dwell was once a palace.

So, Grandpa, what happened here? Where did all the joy and laughter go?

    Aliens?
    Zombies?
    Fags?
Twilight fans? (oops, I already mentioned fags)
    Political turmoil?
Or just a massive wave of apathy?

there are two articles that directly address your question:

    http://encyclopediadramatica.com/The_Cancer_That_Is_Killing_/b/

/b/ could possibly be substituted with IGT in the first picture.

more importantly, this article addresses your question from my POV:

    http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Shit_nobody_cares_about

newfags came, saw and failed. and the fail spread mightily. the minority of competent users moved on with their lives and ditched their digital dinky cars for fire breathing maseratis. some of the truly bored (like myself) come here to help and troll, depending on mood and how incredulous the questions are. soon, i too will be banned for insubordination to stupidity.

and that is the story of pretty much every indian internet forum around. gigpad and RSJ both died after they went on hiatus.

Yeah, IGT used to be pretty active. I guess it was around the time orkut and facebook showed up that it started to go downhill.

I wonder if bad administration is responsible. It's the admin's job to sort the shit out...

Everytime I come here I get a weird "Mines of Moria" feeling... You know, like this was once a great community and now it's abandoned and destroyed by a balrog or something.

If you really wanna see some change around here, then maybe you should try to take things in your hands. Get together a handful of people and become mods of different sections of this forum. How would you become a mod, you'd wonder. Well, get across your message of change to the admin via someone influential/oldtimer on this forum. Ask for one month's of time, on trial basis. See if you can bring about one percentage worth of change in a month, everything that you talk about is wrong on this forum. If all goes well, maybe things can change.

Like mahatma gandhi once said, "Be the change you want to see."

    My 2 cents worth.

    Good Luck. :)

The problem: I don't have the knowledge needed to be a mod - a mod should have a decent to good knowledge about the forum, it's technical aspects and it's topical aspect. I'm neither a guitar god nor a computer programmer...

And - this is how my brain works - people aren't very comfortable sharing power and so it is pointless asking for power unless you really want it and are willing to work hard towards it. The question I put to myself is: why put in effort towards it? It'll take up my time and it'll take up my effort and give me nothing in return except intellectual masturbation.

So if someone wants to throw a moderatorship my way, with the freedom and flexibility to work when I want to and not work when I don't - I might take it up... Otherwise **** it.

Anyway, invisible adminship is a big problem here... I really like the Wikipedia system - some nice things about Wikipedia which forums should try to inculcate

    Adopt a user program http://tinyurl.com/335loqg
    Help desk http://tinyurl.com/pezte
    List of Admins http://tinyurl.com/33uomgw
    Request for adminship http://tinyurl.com/4q4fm

Well there's only two ways to go about things you don't like the way they are, either get up and do something about it, or let it be and stop cribbing about how things were in the past and what mess they are in now, especially when all the cribbing ain't helping much.

Now don't start flaming fire on me, itz jus da truth. :)

The purpose of this thread was not cribbing... I was just curious about the reasons for ruin... I was looking for history, not a discussion...

But if you think I am wrong in bemoaning bad adminship when I myself am not willing to become a moderator, you're wrong. I can bemoan bad adminship because admin is not a democratic position - the policies by which the site is run are not decided by the userbase, they are decided by the site owners. And if the dictator is doing a shitty job, I have every right to whine about the shit policies.

Anyway, you're right, cribbing won't achieve anything... So I'll stop it.

i don't come here to enjoy myself, or to have carefree conversations with like-minded l337s.

i do not do it for the glory... i do not do it so i can feel better about myself.

i do not come here out of sycophancy and a sense of false altruism to help the helpless n00b.

i do not come here for commercial reasons and to monetize my efforts in secondary ways.

i come here for one reason, and one reason only.

i come here FOR TEH LULZ.

i do it because TEH LULZ COMPEL ME TO.

nevermind. it's a pretty stupid meme for jap-obsessed non-jap people who keep using "desu" (which is a grammatical auxillary and roughly translates to the verb "to be", e.g. "watashiwa smith john desu").

very old meme. the only thing you do is keep typing "desu" incessantly. rather stupid. dunno why i threw the oh shi- in there though.

There was a time when the moderators and the owner was very much active on the forum. And i dont think you need any technical knowledge to be a mod. You just have a few more buttons to work with - for deleting/locking threads and for banning members.
