What the hell are TGZ format files?! ive got a file in that format and i have NO idea how to open it!!! :help: thanx in advance [no prize money this time]

Its called a TAR Archive...generally used on Linux or Unix based machines to store files in compressed format! On Windows machine..you need WINRAR Software to uncompress it and extract the files in the same way as zip files.. REgards, Zooom..!!
just to mention .. u may come across .tar files as well .. thats another unix/linux compression format ...
.tgz is just like .zip it mean tar + gzip now tar mean tape archiving format - what it does is taht it just concatenates all the files n folders (that was done earlier to write to tapes instead of CDs which we have now : ) gzip is just like zip - so it compresses the tar archive u might also come across .tar.gz which is the same as .tgz or .tbz which is same as .tar.bz2 now this bz2 is another compression format (better than gzip) anyway Win Ace Win RAR Win Zip and 7 Zip all can unarchive

forget real player get Mplayer ... with the full codec pack ... u can play ANY digital audio or video format available on this world :nw: mplayer :nw:
Lavina, mplayer does not come with any GUI, so u need to mover forward backward, sound control - everything has to be done using keyboard. anyway here is a site: www.mplayerhq.hu and then you also need to download the full codec pack and unzip it to the codec directory. U might try using VLC, it has a GUI, but VLC cannot play everything on this world hbbt: MPLayer really rules.
