Check out the 1984 Tour of Van Halen. He is a real man on stage. He plays some fast legatos and stares at the fretboard as if he didn't know how it happened. Smokes on stage while playing and then puts the ciggie in the head stock plays a solo and takes it again. Jumping, diving, hanging from a rope and so many other funny stuffs. Check it out.
This drill stunt is a copy thing. Eddie Van Halen is the first guy to get the drill on stage. There was a late 70s and early 80s hard core punk death metal band called Discharge. Even they used to do a lot of drill solos. Paul Gilbert is only a clone. Clones dont get votes  . By the way, check out Steve Stevens. One awesome guitarist. He used to bring this toy laser gun and shoots by keeping the thing at the pickups and then plays some legatos and then aims the guitar like a gun and shoots at the audience. He is the guy who played the solo for Michael Jackson's Dirty Diana, one of the most smoking solos in a Jackson's song ever. He used to play for Bill Idol and also another project called Bozzio, Levins and Stevens. It's a progressive, Jazz, Hard Rock, Fusion thingy. The line up is Terry Bozzio on drums, Tony Levins (Remember King Crimson) on bass and Steve Stevens on Guitars. He is considered one of the most versataile guitarist ever. Also check out Vince Neil's (Motley Crue) solo album called Exposed. His guitaring simple smokes and I am sure most of guys would have overlooked that album. Who bothers about Vince Neil anyway. Any Steve Stevens fan here.
