@ srideep ~ nice job. can't REP coz of spreading problems. :sorry:

coming back to your chords ... lets see

    1) chorus: we have the same chords ~ so no discussion.

    2) post-chorus: your chords are definitely better (D#m in place of G#m & F# in place of that B)

    3) end: i already discussed about that. thanks for putting them down in actual chords.

    4) verse: this is the part where we have differed the most. i really can't play along with your chords here. so if you can please check it once more and reply.

    thank you once more.

they are decent but they dont seem to match the timings

the song is not the usual 4/4
so it seems a little out of beat

    hey sheermelody
    agreed
    yours are even better
im still a begginer and i can identify just the major and minor chords by listening....

    Thanks for the comments.

Well, identifying chords accurately is something which comes from experience. There are no shortcuts to identifying them but here are a few things which might help in identification, and somethings which I mostly use to identify strange sounding chords.

    1) For suspended chords, try to listen carefully to the part which contains the suspended chord (like sus2, sus4). You will notice the distinct absence of a certain note in the triad, e.g. for Csus2, you will notice that the E is absent. in such cases it's important to get your ear used to the sounds of sus2 and sus4, so that the moment you hear something like this, you can jot it down. Another good way for identifying suspended chords would be to listen to the bass. There was a rather interesting song I once listened to in which the chords was Asus2 and the bass note which was played all through that part was B. Hope this clarifies on suspended chords.

    2) Regarding maj7ths, 7ths and m7ths - this is something which can ONLY come through a lot of listening. I would seriously advise you to listen to a lot of jazz/blues music which gives a very good idea of 7ths. On the subject of 7ths, you must understand that it doesn't always make sense to use a 7th. 7ths are mostly used for either giving a different feel to the same chord, or sometimes, to lead on to a different chord. So lets say you are playing C major, and you want to shift to F major. The easy way would be to play C major and then F major. The more musically appealing way (of course, this varies from song to song) would be to play C major, then C7 (note that this is the dominant 7th) followed by F major. You will easily realize the difference. This concept of using the 7th as a leading chord to some other chord is extremely common, and it's heartening to see the new music directors and bands using these chords with alacrity.

On the same note, try and get your ears used to the II-V-I progression. This is something which is the root of a lot of rock/jazz and bossa nova. What this implies is lets say on a key of C, play three chords IIm7, V7, and I. This translated to normal chords is Dm7, G7, C. Variations of this format are used almost everywhere in modern music, and knowledge and identification of this progression will go a long way in helping you to identify complex chord structures. As an example note this part in the post-chorus of this chord structure:

    B-------------------D#m--------------
sunle bekhabar kyun aankhein pher kar
    G#--------G#7--------C#m-----------
aaj tu chali jaa ... dhundegi nazar

after B, we have D#m, G#, G#7, C#m. So on the key of C# this is after all nothing but a IIm, V7, and Im progression. The second part of the post verse is slightly different:

    D#7----------
    aisi raaton main leke karwaate
    G#---------G#7---C#m-------------

but again it's just one chord which is different, making it a II, V7, Im progression.

    3) Whenever in doubt regarding a complex sounding chord, listen to the bass preceding or immediately following it. The bass line (if you are good at identifying bass lines), gives a good idea of the chord which was played just after or just before it.

    e.g.
    Em------------------
    kab ka tha gila ...
    A7/G--------A------D-
    kaise keh dia alvida

A7/G is nothing but an A7 chord which had the bass note G in the background.

I have rambled on for long. I know a lot of what I said may sound abstract, but it helps in the long run.

    Cheers, and happy listening.
