    Shehnai maestro Ustad Bismillah Khan passed away due to a heart attack in Varanasi early morning on Monday. He was 91.

    Khan, who was hospitalised and put on intravenous drip after a brief illness, breathed his last at 3.30 in the morning.

    He had been admitted to the Heritage Hospital in the city on Thursday after his health reportedly started deteriorating following illness.

    Born on March 21, 1916, Khan was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2001.

    He was also honoured with the Sangeet Natak Academi Award, the Tansen Award and the prestigious Padma Vibhushan.

    May this Maestro's soul rest in peace..... Hindustani Classical Music has truly been deprived.... It is, unfortunately yet undoubtedly, a pity how we (our Indian Government) failed to value, henceforth, requite his musical stature, genius and contributions to traditional Indian classical music, especially at the global platform, clearly evident from the poverty-stricken livelihood and the gruesome conditions he passed away in..... May heaven bestow him with all that was deserved yet deprived.

    Though I don't listen to classical music .. the news is sad and He surely was one of the best in the business. May God bless his soul.

    @wizard ..

    Its an Islamic practice n that's what is said when you hear the news of someone passing away ..

    It means "Verily we belong to God, and to Him we return."
