Of course... you just need to look at rock greats like Jimmi Page to see the influence of major and minor pentatonics.
petrucci rather prefers the chromatic scale most... the pentatonic is traditionally the standard rock scale.
yhea.. BUt he taught stuff on the Pentatonic.. Its great.. ANother Pentatoni Maniac is Paul Gilbert..
okie here goes...a pentatonic is a five note scale...it is used by a lot of hard rock players...to the best of my knowledge a lot of leads in Iron Maiden are based off pentatonics... here i will demonstrate the pentatonic sclae for Am which i think is very sweet... String 6 E: Frets 5 and 8 String 5 A: Frets 5 and 7 [6 also for the blues addition] String 4 D: Frets 5 and 7 String 3 G: Frets 5 and 7 [8 also for the blues addition] String 2 B: Frets 5 and 8 String 1 E: Frets 5 and 8 You should note that without taking into consideration the blues notes the pentatonic scale for Am contains only the notes A, D, G, C, E...thats the trick...the same pattern can be followed for any of the notes on String 6...for instance the Em pentatonic will be the same finger positioning but 5 places down thats it... have fun playin....it sounds real kewl when u also add the blues notes to it....hope this helps
I would say pentatonic is a must followed by Dorian and Aeolians...blues additions to pentatonics sound reallll kewllll....
