I too am looking for the chords of this song - "Mera Joota Hai Japani" (sung by Mukesh in the movie Shree 420) and need them ASAP :). If anyone could pass that on I would really appreciate it. FYI, the melody is being played from the A key.

    F#m.................................................
Mera joota hai japani, yeh patloon hindustani

    ..Bm........................................................F#m
Sar pe laal topi roosi phir bhi dil hai hindustani

    F#m.......................Bm..........................C#m.............Bm.................F#m
Nikal pade hai khulli sadak par apna seena taane, apna seena taane
    F#m........................Bm..................C#m..............Bm......F#m
Manzil kaha kahan rukna hai uparwaala jaane, uparwala jaane
    F#m..............................................................
badhte jayee hum sailani jaise ek dariya toofani
    Bm.............................................................F#m
sar pe laal topi roosi phir bhi dil hai hindustani

    F#m.......
    mera joota hai japani

I have not heard this song for a while... and I cant find my Mukesh CD!..so I had to try this memory (one of the two things I dont trust in life - the other being......).so there might be some mistakes..try em out and see if these chords sound right...

Thanks for the chords Viraj. I tried the chords above but then figured that I needed chords in the scale key of of D. I came up with the following chords (in the keyof D) and was wondering if someone can verify if this is okay or not:

    Dm.............................................. ..
Mera joota hai japani, yeh patloon hindustani

    ..Am.........................................F. ..........Dm
Sar pe laal topi roosi phir bhi dil hai hindustani

    Music:
    Dm........................
    ...la...la...la...la....la...
    Dm...........................
    ...la...la...la...la....la...
    Am 7 ........................................................................
    la...la...la....la....la....la...la...la....la....la....la....la....la

With this key, I can't really get the chords of the antara. And a D seems to work thoughout.

    D........................................... ..................................
Nikal pade hai khulli sadak par apna seena taane, apna seena taane
    D............................................................
Manzil kaha kahan rukna hai uparwaala jaane, uparwala jaane
    D.............................................. ...............
badhte jayee hum sailani jaise ek dariya toofani
    D............................................... .............
sar pe laal topi roosi phir bhi dil hai hindustani

It would be great if someone could:

    1. Let me know if the above chords sound right. The melody with the above chords begins at the A note.
    2. Let me know how the chords of the stanzas work and what is wrong with what I have.
    3. Last I wanted to know the best strumming patterns to follow with a song like this.

Any help soon would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks for the link to hindi songs Anhad.
I have listened to the song.. and to my ears it appears to be in F#m, but if you are comfortable in Dm thats okay I guess. A bit of input from other members would be good...lets see. Meanwhile enjoy playing the guitar...

I posted a request for the strumming pattern as a new thread since the title of this thread was not what I wanted. The new thread is at:

    https://indianguitartabs.com/showthread.php?t=9948

In the meantime I have figured out newer chords with the start note of the melody at B now. The new chords are:

    Music: Em/ D/ G
    Mukhda: Em/ D / Em
    Interlude music: E/ G
    Stanza: E/ B/ E

I am still looking for a good strumming pattern. Let me know if you can find out one. More details are in the new thread that I created.

    Thanks.

Anhad, I replaced Dm with A, which sounded more attuned to me. But then I may be wrong.
