php is better because its free

php does require components like asp. however the php core library is very large and contains almost all the subsets you would need. to add more components on (and these would be highly specialised and specific items) you'd need to get in touch with your host.

make a php file and put the line "phpinfo();" save it and upload it. then go to that page in your web browser and it will tell you what is available on your server

PHP is waaay better. It runs on all platforms, and for PHP you don't need addon's, you just need to enable modules in the config file. I've been doing PHP for 3 years and consider myself pretty good at it.

I've done ASP too, that's for kiddies though..

php rocks.. i use it... its free and easy to use...... i u download the files and then upload them onto ur host then its easy to add mods.... but if u are using one via a site u have to ask the host if they can add mods so its a bit of a let down that way.......thats where i am having trouble :(
