Wel....did v evr thnk tht Lagaan wud mk it 2 d nominatns...bt it did.... it al depends how d movie is promotd ther....RDB ws d obvious choice among al other movies...its entertaining & at d same time gvs a message too....lets hope tht d promotns r done in a bettr way...& hope it gts d nominatn.... PS. Let it get d nominatn first thn v'l hope furthr tht it wins :
Lame choice. I would have gone with Omkara. It wasnt Oscar Winning but it still would have been a better choice. The screenplay was very much a pefect visual adaptation of Othello (minus the climax). I'll be happy if RDB doesn't win maybe they'll start making better films.
based on othello is a negative point for omkara. people who do the oscar nominations look for an original plot.
wow...great news dat RDB goin to take part in OSCAR...good movie...good selection....movie has strong concept..n it shows dat ven v were struggling n fightin against d britishers....some of them were good...bcoz they dont wanted to hurt indians n some wanted to hurt n they did....! so its movie n story of our problems, present dat v r facing.....all d best RDB !
FYI Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was based on the fourth book of the Crane-Iron Pentalogy - It won the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar in 2000. Nowhere in Africa won in 2002 and was based on a novel of the same name. Mar adentro (Spanish) won in 2004 and was based on real life events.
And if you go through the history of the awards there are many other films which are adaptations of some or the other story or real life events.
Shadows of doubt Its really gr8 that RDB is going for the Oscars...I just wanted somethings clarified though...Does the Oscar panel watch a dubbed version (which I doubt they do) coz that would remove the significance of the Punjabi accent used in the movie... This is going to sound a bit blunt, cynical and pessimistically stupid but do they know about Indian history?I mean we'll have to assume they know who Bhagat Singh was..I'm pretty sure they do know it..but I don't think they'll be able to feel the significance of his work & sacrifice....which removes the patriotic aspect from the movie... But then again whatever I said above is absolutely useless if there is an unbiased & impartial Indian in the panel of judges....which is what I'm hoping for... After all only an indian can feel the fire within that this movie ingnites... (And I am seriously hoping that this movie wins the Oscars...I'm all for it)
It was no surprise at all to find RDB to make for the India's entry at Oscars.. It is the best bollywood movie in recent times.. But very difficult to say how far will it go..
