    There is an instrumental competition bieng held at IIT kanpur.Can you suggest any guitar solo performance in the Rock genre?
    The guitar can be accompanied by a keyboard.

    Why not play some acoustic shred stuff (jazz rock sort of).

    That will blow all the judges off, as well as public who are used to seeing wankery only on electric guitars with distortion.

    ytse jam and like songs are difficult for me....midnight seems a good option but it is of very short duration (abt 1:40)

    @alpha1:accoustic shred stuff is a cool idea...can u tell me some songs on that..

    @all:thanks for the suggestions guys

    any Al Di Meola stuff would be acoustic shred (even if it was done on electric - he hardly uses any electrci effects - and hence the stuff can be played on acoustic without any loss of listening pleasure)

    or some Marty Friedman stuff - like his True Obsession album. That can also be played clean.

    PS: BUT for acoustic shred you need to be VERY VERY proficient. Its unlike distortion shred, where compression and distortion mask lousy technique.

    Best thing...Get a backing a you improvise over it. In that way, you will be playing well within your skill level and wont mess up there on stage...This is better than picking up a great song and screwing it up....

    delay and reverb mask everything....even dimeola uses that atleast....i guess all u need is a decent amount of gain with a decent amount of delay n stuff..somehow i feel its easy to shred with a clean tone on the acousitc than on the electric...i love that 'bite' in the sound ...electric on clean sounds too weak...

    The execution of shred is not easier on electric guitar with distortion than acoustic, its just taht when you have distortion it compresses the notes, and make them sound fluid.

    Whereas in acoustic, all glitches and unevenness in your playing comes out.
