hey pretty .......... cool man........... i used to play a different set of transposed chords before Ur sure this is the correct scale??????????????
Isnt the song in Aminor? Hes improvising using a solo over A minor and the chords Dm,C,F are from the Aminor scale
u could say that its the dorian mode for C, but then the outro has that cool Bb chord.. the song is def not Am
Transposing Hey jay, Have always wanted to ask you this--We can play a song in any scale by proper transposing right? Then.....is it very important that one has to recognise the correct scale before playing the song? Also.....will Dm be OK instead of the F chord appearing in this song (another brick in the wall) ?They sound really similar......and so is the case with all the 6th minors.....like C and Am;G and Em etc. So.....can one schuffle with these chords?.....I mean play C 'OR' Am;G 'OR' Em....etc. Can you also tell me what do you mean by "dorian mode"?(Oops!....Lots of questions......!)
yes Depends on your own self. If you're playing with other people, it won't do to have different people comfortable on different keys hence people usually stick to the correct scale just for the sake of convention. I'm quite sure no one will stop you from playing the song from above or below though. No. No. No. Definitely not. While the chords are similar in structure and are stemming from what is, in essence, the same scale....the sound is definitely not the same. However, chord substitution is a common practice but you have to know what you're doing....it depends on the situation and the feel of the song. To stress on my point, I'll give you a simple example. Perhaps you've heard the savage garden song "Truly, madly, deeply"? C-------------------------------------G------------------------- I'll be your dream I'll be your wish I'll be your fantasy F-----------------------------------G------------------------------------- I'll be your hope I'll be your love be everything that you need C------------------------------------G----------------------------- I'll love you more with every breath truly madly deeply F----------------------------------G------------------------------ I will be strong I will be faithful 'cos I'm counting on a Am----------------------G--------------- New beginning, a reason for living..... Listen to the song, you'll see a definite change between the first four lines and then the part where the Am comes in. Modes, simply put, are just the notes of the scale played from different points. The major scale is Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do....i.e.- Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni, Sa The Dorian mode would be the same scale played from Re...i.e- Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni, Sa, Re i.e.- Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do Re Thus, C dorian would be the Bb major scale played from C to C.
