Use the Nylon Plecs for rhythm they don't break n are really cool for strummin.. Jim Dunlop 0.6mm works good .. If u want both rhythm n leads than as sridhar said .. 0.8mm is good .. For Fast leads or shredding .. Use the thicker ones with a slightly slanted grip .. 1mm or 1.2mm works great .. don't go for very thick ones .. though many people play with it .. But don't change yo plectrum Often .. For scratching yo back : Option1 - Jim dunlop 2.0 mm or thicker .. should work wonders .. OR Option2 - Import on of the most expensive plectrum from US or so.. that way u'l make sure yoself that u don't break it ..
 Dude ur a man or a dinosaur???? I have tried my best & yet have to see a pick break into pieces. How do u guyz do that?? Well not while scratching ur balls/back, practically playing the guitar & ur pick snaps. Sounds far-fetched considering my playing style & im not too gentle with guitars.
Dudes the ball breaking and scratching picks.........Oh sorry i mean the broken pics and the scratch is all a joke.________u kenw that, didnt u? on a seriious note: fingerpicking is actually tough to do. i have tried apoyando and tirando books it's pretty tough plus my girlfrien does not like boys with big nails or hair (on both the places). Is there any other way of learning fingerpicking. BTW i am satisfied with ur replies abt the picks. PS i take a bath everyday and sometimes even twce when it is too hot or when i dream of my gf. (no pun intended)
Yes there iare other ways of learning fingerpicking!! 1. daily morning when u get up, pick ur nose with your fingers!! 2. Scratch ur back with ur fingers only... strictly no picks. 3. Before learning to fingerpick on the guitar properly.. practice using your fingers in Other places (if you know what I mean)!!! Once you learn how to get 'desired' results from your fingers in other avenues, you might be able to learn fingerpicking on the guitar! Seriously.. there is no shortcut to glory, esp. with guitars, so just fcukin practice.
dear harsh, try not to be a pervert about girls and panties....just practice guitaring....and the way u talk bout ur "GF" :RollLol: - makes it pretty evident that ur a n00B widout a life or gurlfriend....try and control man.... just pick up ur guitar - get that pick out from between ur legs - and practice...k? luv and regards irshaan singh kakar
OK well i'll save my humuour (which makes me a pervert to u guys with dirty brains) dont predict me. theres a lot maore where that came from. I include jokes to make it an interesting read.. as ASS MODEOUS said. when i write the second part 'the serious thing ' i would like serious replies so plz stic to the topic and give me a solution Should i go for apoyando or tirando pickin. i mean which is better to start with. and suggest songs which are somewhat popular for fingerpickin.
No other rock genre song can beat "Babe am gonna leave you" by Led Zeppelin. It is amazing piece of music.
If you want serious answers then just ask questions without taxing your brains for the sense of humor. Do not worry about your humor making things interesting since it obviously does the otherwise.
Whydo you bother so much about what style of finger picking you should use??? Just play the damn thing and suit whatever style suits you. Not everything can be spoonfed so try both the styles and do what suits you best. And if you know to play the whole of Stairway to heaven by fingerpicking, go play Sultans of Swing (fingerpicking only) or the lead for Patience or 316 by Van Halen. If you know them as well.. play Master of Puppets or Battery by fingerpickin!!! Should serve you well.
Nothing else matters is good for starters who have learned fingerpicking. Every Tom, Dick and Harry needs to know this song... Plectrums: Thick one are definitely better for shredding and picking notes. I prefer lighter ones for strumming since i can control the dynamics; make it sound louder/softer just by pushing the pick inwards while strumming for louderness and doing the opposite for sounding softer. I find difficult sounding softer while strumming with thick plectrums. They stubbornly sound with more treble. I experience whole thing above only in Clean. With distortion both would do good however i would still prefer thick ones. Lighter ones are too bad for fast riffs and tremolo picking.
i use only gibson medium plectrum. yes but all others use light for strumming and medium for shredding. i hate the thicker ones (personal view).and harsh its good you start these threads but keep the humour little bit away.
I currently use 2.0mm and 3.0mm JD Stubbys (usually the 2.0mm). I am thinking of switching to JD Jazz IIIs.
