Hello there! i'm planning on picking up an electric guitar with a budget of about 20k. what guitar brands are suited for metal? if i had to choose b/w a jackson, bc rich or an ibanez, what would my best bet be?

Yep, do read up the previous posts, you might get some insight and reviews. Visit harmony-central or some such to get some reviews on the gear you might be interested in.
Wait a while. The new 2008 models are coming out and there are some killer deals. B.C.Rich has gone up a lot in quality and specs for the same price and I'd recomend them. Ibanez are decent, but I'm not a fan. Jackson are good, but IMO starting to get overpriced. Other brands to look at: Kramer gets you some good deals and kramer strikers are good guitars. Washburn has some really nice guitars too. Look around adn you can get somethinga wesome. I'd stay away from tremolos in that price range if i were you(apart from some kramers)
