I'd love it if you could build a 2 channel 20w-30w amp with el84s with maybe a pre and post gain feature...lot like the Peavey Classic 30. Or if you could just build a classic 30 clone i'd go crazy. To me thats one of the best sounding amps i've ever heard. Beautiful cleans, thick creamy overdrive tones, and if kicked in by a pedal great distortion and lead tone. BTW satriani used his Classic 50 and DS-1 for the SBM and crystal planet record (oriental melody intro tone is my second fav tone of all time by the way)

I'd go gaga if you could build me a classic 30...

    top 3 tones

    SRV - Little wing
Satriani - The Mighty Turtle Head
Blackmore - when a blind an cries

If you're building a dream amp
    Clean - Satriani's ZZ's Song
Rhythm - Blackmore's smoke on the water to Andy Timmons' Electric Gypsy
    Lead - Van halen's Baluchitherium

Some people I know who've played both classic 30 and 36W prefer the 36W. I really love the sound of this amp. Its everything the 18 is and more. Richer, better harmonics, more clean headroom. I'm going to build this for myself soon, already have half the parts. In fact you might even think of the 36W as a purer form of the classic 30 (without the SS bits). If you like the Calssic you'll love this amp. The 30 has a higher gain preamp but the beauty of the 36 is it generates a lot of distortion in the poweramp stages (EL84) which makes this amp a dream. You also have an EF86 variant so you can get Fender cleans and Marshall dirt all in one amp. See if you can find some clips. I think its one of the best amps I've heard, and they love pedals...

I actually do get that Turtle head tone on my Octane but you'll have to hear it live. The clips don't do it justice. That's Class A for ya. Now I'm itching to do it with the 36

^ LOL, so you have also fallen prey to that baloney.

Lesse if we give him Line6 uber metal pedal and ask him to get same tone he got in his first album.

Its not about getting the crowd up. Gilmour can do that with an acoustic.

    Its about the tone.
