i dislike gilmour's solo project. his days with floyd are the true times...i feel.

Frankly, I would equate new age PF more to slow trance music.
Nothing much psychedlic other than use of huge chorus/flange and delay and bending the b5th note to 6th on the Blues scale.

Trance music atleast has certain variations, albeit repetitive.

So for me its the Trance music that puts me into a "trance"

 

PS: the real spooky psychedelic PF would be somethign liek: Interstellar Overdrive, One of these days, Echoes, Careful with that Axe Eugene,

or better still listen to King Crimson!

The later day PF was more of melodic stuff, but not psychedlic eg. Shine on You crazy diamond was transitional.
Later albums were even more pop oriented
