Let us see the chords and tabs for the song Adho Andha Paravai Pola from Ayirathil Oruvan (1965) film - An evergreen hit...

Though the film is very old, this song is still popular and often played in all channels.

MSV + TKR combination had produced fantastic music in those days - unbeatable ones...

This song is a classic example of westernized beat in the year 1965.

The song is here for those who wish to hear ........... Adho Anda Paravai Pola - YouTube

    The chords go as under:

A[D]dho antha paravai pola [Bm]vaazha vendum
Idho intha alaigal pola [G] aada vendum
    O[Em]re vaanilae o[D]re mannile
    O[Em]re vaanilae o[D]re mannile
    O[Gm]re geetham [D]urimai geetham paaduvom

lallaa laa la. lallaa laa la.
lallaa laa la. lallaa laa la.

    [D]kaatru nammai adimai enru vilagavillai[Bm]ye
    [Em]kadal niirum adimai enru suduvathillai[D]ye [Em]suduvathillai[D]ye
    [Bm]kaalam nammai [G]vittu vittu nadappathillai[Am]ye
    kaadhal paasam [Em]thaaymai nammai [G]marappathillai[D]ye
    O[Em]re vaanilae o[D]re mannile
    O[Gm]re geetham [D]urimai geetham [Bm]paaduvom

I am unable to figure out the chords for the middle swarams - lallaa laa la..... Requesting experts to put down the same.

Also correct the chords wherever you see it could be better....

The tabs are seen in the attached. See how these tabs flow down into the melody.

One of my old hit favorite song.... & I hope you will enjoy this in your guitar....

I will soon expect a video from one of you in FB or in this forum.....

Pick, Play and Enjoy...... & do post your views & comments.... Sathya

Thanks Senthil for bringing out this detailed picture. It sounds really better now. When I look back, it is a difference between LKG and PHD. So long to go in learning these things....

I could not get any thought over the use of 7 chords...

This song & the music composed in 1965 are something great given the infrastructure for recording available then at that time.....

So the chords are now complete and ready for all to play and enjoy............. Sathya

That's so nice of you Jimi. I will try this also. B7 is not an issue for me as I play only barre chords.

The song is in D Major (from tabs perspective) and I was only confused whether the chords start with the song or not.

Thanks for your efforts and the complete chords..... Sathya

Yes the song is in the key of Dmaj. Song starts in D in the intro and shifts to D# in the chorus.
pls try it and do tell me.

Definitely comes out well Jimi. But how did you choose D# and C Minor (Half scale higher than the base)?

Is there any shift in the scale (in the voice) ? I am not able to figure out this.

Being up by a half scale does not make much difference in this musical hit song..... Sathya

What the composer did is Modulation(changing the keys).
What i forgot to mention that this song modulates from Dmaj to D#maj which is up by a semitone.
This kind of progression is staple of Gospel music and was popular in those days. Its a kind of abrupt modulation used mainly when a chorus is accompanied and usually features in end of the song..also called "Truck driver gear change modulation" in the West.

Jimi, I was wondering why Bm to for the start of the song? I guess the first line starts with no chords and the chords stars with Bm on "Vaazha vendum" lines. Now I noticed you have corrected again, Thanks.

You may have to keep it in mind some of these things about our Tamil composers, MSV (composer of this song), ARR and many others doesn't follow any strict rules in terms of chords or notes to the instrumentalists. Sometimes chords in the first stanza may not be same in the second stanza (even it is in the same tune), I guess they encourage player's improvisation. Even in this song, I hear lot of variations. At one point, MSV was running music factory composing 18 songs a day.

It's opposite with IR, he writes every single note, and instrumentalists has to follow it as strict rules and they are not allowed to deviate on their own.

@Guitarsen ok i got it! But my version is matching with the vocals perfectly even if you are hearing variations.

I also felt that the chords start little later that is why I started with in the middle of the first word. Anyhow, starting with D and moving on to Bm perfectly matches with the song. Thanks Senthil for your comments and it is good to see active participation from one and all in this Forum....Let this continue in future............ Sathya
