Ok I started formal guitar lessons from... 3rd January (2005!!) i.e. 9 days. Before that I had no idea about how to play a guitar. My sir started off by first explaining the technical ters like what are Frets (Blocks!!) and Paces in a musical notation.

theguitaristofm, ur lesson was very inituitive from the fact that it at least taught me how to type notations!! (No pun intended!)

I don't know anything about chords, etc! Presently, I am told to play Do (G), Re (A)... as fast and as distinctly as possible!

I am just sharing my teacher's knowledge as, I presume, that might help others to learn along with me!

If these be the lines in a notation book! Then:

    X
    -------------------------------X---------------------
    X
    ------------------------X-----------------------------
    X
    -----------------X------------------------------------
    X
    ----------X-------------------------------------------
    X
    ---X--------------------------------------------------

    -------------------------------------------------------
    G A B C D E F g (top G)
    String: 3 3 2 2 2 1 1 1
    Fret: 0 2 0 1 3 0 1 3
    Finger: 0 2 0 1 3 0 1 3

    If we play sequential... i.e.
First: 3rd String open (no finger anywhere)
Secnd: 3rd String with 2nd finger on 2nd fret
    and so on...
In notation book, The first note (G) (i.e. 3rd String played Open) is written by a mark on the 2nd line and second note (A) is written in the gap between the 2nd and 3rd line! (Don't ask me why or why is the first note called 'A' I have no idea!)

Well... those experts out here, if you think this information is worthwhile or if I did any good by putting down these details, then please do reply.
And if you (which I don't think you would) want me to put everything that I am taught in every class, to be put up on this forum, I may then initiate a new thread on this! What say you? All depends upon your feedback and comments!

Looking forward to hear from everyone!

  3. @shamasis well i would like to request u sth
    as u said u r a beginner n have a teacher
well many members i igt r learning from others
n dont hae teachers to guide them n so on(i am one
    of them)
so if u could plzzzzz post some of the impotant tutorials
or tips u learnt weekly or monthly which will b helpful
    to our members

    thnx for ur help

well for the other parts of my tutorials i thought abt including signs like
hammer n so on but recently a thread has been made for it

  4. playing chords

    hi
well first thing this thread is mainly a help for newbies to learn playing
    chords
any help or improvement will b appreciated
    thnx

well when we play chords we need to know 3 main things
    the song(obvious)
    the strumming pattern
n the chords to b played

well hope thats clear up to now

    we will start part one

    how to read chords

ok at times u c things written as C A D Am F or other such things

well chords r playing two or more notes at the same time

u can download the chords dictionary from igt or u have it in guitar pro

one example of a chord is E(easiest one to play)

    Its sth such

    E---------0--------------------------------------------
    B---------0-------------------------------------------
    G---------1-------------------------------------------
    D---------2--------------------------------------------
    A---------2---------------------------------------------
    E---------0------------------------------------------

well the zero means u let it open

ie play sting E (thin) B E(thick open)
the 1 means u put ur fingers G in fret one
    2in D means u put ur fingers on D in 2nd fret
2 in A means u put ur fingers on A in 2nd fret

    well thats seems eay enough

sth else in chords when u c the sign X on a string it means u don't
    have to play that string

    hmmmmmmmmmm seems easy enough

to begin try with chords like C A E Am G they r relatively easier ones

    chord C
    E---------0--------------------
    B---------1--------------------
    G---------0------------------
    D---------2-----------------
    A---------3------------------
    E---------X-----------

    chord A

    E---------0----------------------------------
    B---------2-----------------------
    G---------2-----------------------------
    D---------2---------------------------
    A---------0-----------------------
    E---------X-------------

    ok

now we move to the strumming pattern for taht bandbaaja has
posted a really nice n educative thread
    the link is below
    https://indianguitartabs.com/showthread.php?t=5714

    what is really strumming???????????

well its playing the strings gently or (rarely a bit hard manner) while placing ur fingers on the
    required frets

    ok
when u strum u can play the strings from down to up
    or from up to down

    am i right?

that link tells u abt the stumming patterns
there r many links in igt with some stumming pattern like the inteha ho gayi thread

u can also look for the papa khete hain link there's some stumming patterns
    u newbies can learn abt

well willll post loads of examples of strumming pattern n links later
    thnx

  5. there's also some explanations +help abt arpeggios i will post later
    thnx
