New Orleans Vs Mumbai City - How did the two fare coping with disaster!

i had seen this on discovery in context to tornados ....the F5 category tornado...which is the most destrucitive of all as destrucitive as a c5 hurricane.....if not more....doesnt destroy reinforced buildings....
in both cases....hurricanes and the tornado counter part..maximum damage is caused by flying debris which acts as projectiles.....planks of wood, automobiles, furniture which ram through walls et al.....
they showed this experiment in which they shot a block of wood thru some wierd air pressure cannon at speeds equalling those generated by f5 tornadoes....and shot this block(more of a plank.) at walls made of concrete , reinforced concrete and wooden walls the kinds u usually find in american buildings....
Result: the reinforced concrete walls were more or less unscathed....
Verdict: americans are suffering coz they are lazy bums not bothered enuf to make concrete houses....

FYI Mumbai has been hit by hurricanes....the south east is hit by hurricanes on a regular basis...and even in those cases max damage is caused in rural areas where there arent any pakka houses.....

da biggest difference...mumbai was hit by very heavy rainfalls (cloud burst as some say)....nd new orleans was hi by a hurricane....so most comparisons r useless

 

true but the way things are at orleans and florida (Anotha place which gets hit by hurricanes)

if u bring the analogy to bombay ....
it is akin to saying taht most of the buildings in bombay are made of clay and mud (keep in mind the heavy rain bombay faces) ... oviosly they wont have any chance for surviving ...

they call it the house of rising sun
and its been a ruin for many a long time
ever since it got hit by that hurricane!
