Microsoft Sends Mozilla a Cake To Congratulate Firefox 2 Browser Launch

The Mozilla Foundation can have their cake and eat it, too. Especially since their chief Web browser rival Microsoft sent them a congratulatory confectionary on the release of Firefox 2.

According to a post on a Mozilla employee's personal website, Microsoft recently delivered a large cake to Mozilla’s Mountain View, CA, office to congratulate the company on the launch of the latest open-source browser. A short icing inscription read: “Congratulations on shipping! Love, the IE Team.”

I think the cake was just a red herring.
Its actual purpose was corporate espionage.

Or mebbe the cake was "fixed" with some brain retarding chemicals/bugs.

Nonsense, Microsoft employees only delivered the cake. It was from IE i.e., Indian Express. Read the article carefully.
Microsoft people are good enough for delivering goods, I hope.

IE is still MILES ahead of Firefox in terms of percentage usage and internet traffic handled.

^ Why defeat? There are things IE7 does better than Firefox (although the same can be said for Firefox).

Have you seen IE7's Print function? It easily puts Firefox's Print feature to shame. IE7's Quick Tabs are really good; I regularly have 15-20 tabs open in Firefox and it's a mess. Using IE7, I can quickly find the tab I want (with a single keystroke). IE7's intelligent Zoom feature is also very impressive.

Sure Firefox does a better job with things such as standards compatibility, security, themes, download managing etc. but calling Firefox 2's feature-set a complete walkover of IE7's features would be a gross over-assumption.

Each of the browsers have their own merits and demerits.

Or maybe they realise that by giving just a cake they'd get hell lot of publicity throughout the world. Quite a deal.

IE 7 is only as good as Firefox 1.5. Better than 2.0 in some though..but overall, Firefox pwns IE.

i agree microsoft has huge share, but it's from past. it is declining. has to. Don't boast of past glory or accept india is cricket champion and Indira Gandhi is PM.

Cake won't help. MS can only hope some rats get in Mozilla office and destroy cables or laptops. GNAW not GNU
