    OMG.
The only Megadeth that I liked was when Marty Friedman was there.

Other than that you listen to their first album, you heard it all.

I dont know if this is true But I once "heard" that Dave Mustaine told Marty his guitar sucks.

    ^^ :RollLol:
Thats coz Marty doest like to just d00dle and be content with plyaing just same old Thrash Metal, whcih Dave Mustaine hasn't yet learned to grow out of.

So it is understandable if Dave says such a thing.

well on mp3.com it says the bassist has quit the band....and on their official site it says they've begun mixing the album

    Ha!
Who needs bassist on Thrash Metal?
He is there just to add bass frequencies to the distorted rhythm guitars.

Clasic example: check out album "And Justice for All" by MetallicA. Bass is simply missing in that album.
Thrash metal, Death metal actaully do not require good bassists.

chintan9 yay! i won the ipod!

That is total bullshit!!!! A bass player is essential for any band. Grind core to jazz. No one can add the low end like a bass player.

I was just waiting for you to quip in.

    Welcome.

"No one can add the low end like a bass player."

I also said the same thing, aint it?

why dont bands simply record the bass on tape and play it instead of keeping a bassist in a thrash metal band. I mean, nobody cares about the basist! Lead Guit, yes, drummer yes, vox yes, rhythm guit sometimes, bassist-yeh kaun hai??,badhe guitar wala??
    Lol, just a thought.

Well its OK having a bassist in TM or DM, but you dont need a skilled one at all.
Other genres of rock are more bass savvy.

Not from grindcore (check out pig destroyer) but from DM onwards IMO.

I never said it wasnt Ok. What I meant is that keep a tape recorder instead( a one time investment) rather than a bassist with whom you have to share your spoils with after each and every gig.
I got this idea after watching Medusa, lol almost all of their songs had synth parts which were recorded. OK, synth parts stand out and hence there should be a keyboardist, but a bassist??
A bassist makes more sense when there aint a rhythm guitarist IMO.

I know , i know there are tons of exceptions. Still IMO TM is not the best platform for a virtuoso bassist to shine, Jazz would be perfect.

Hearing that from a prog rock fan is quite a surprise. :p:

    Why not?

Prog requires a good bassist to compete with a good guitarist and keyboards.

    MY thoughts

a bassist is very important for a band.
it is more important for Jazz than for D metal etc.

A good Bassit can make an excellnt band. But honestly A good Bassist needs place for his talents to be used and not hidden.
