Even I hate Paul Gilbert's tone. It sounds like a cheapo Givson played through a second hand Zoom 505 through a crappy and worn out 15Watt Stranger Amp.
Hey !!! Thats the understatement of the YEAR ! Anywyz..Thats Addy Pant entire Setup (although his tone is far far better)
Fat Strat is a totally different beast from Normal Strat. So no point adding them to the ongoing discussion. The discussion was more on the lines of Humbucker vs Single Coil. Who will add the ISD Codes? (I am presuming these guys dont live in India)
...umm a Fat Strat has 1 humbucker and 2 single coils. I don't think these guys confine themselves to using just the humbucker. So my point is quite valid.
 To me his tone is ditto Malmsteen copy. Which is slight overdrive. I would never call that distortion. :aggre:
Malmsteen uses more gain that you can possibly think off...Easily as much as Metallica but not scooped though.. He uses this HS2 which is extremely low output pickup. With such things, even a Metal Distortion sounds like an low gain overdrive and to get the amount of distortion and gain he gets, he must be using really super high gain..
https://www.yngwie.org/Gear.htm https://uk.geocities.com/strat110/gear.html MARSHALL '1987' 50 WATT NON MASTER VOLUME HEADS Yngwie's amp of choice is the Marshall 1987 (model #) head. Yngwie uses vintage models dating from 1972-73 in the studio and live, but the re-issue Marshall 1987x is a superb replica of the 1972 (year) model which were slightly more aggressive in sound. Yngwie always runs the volume control on 10 with the tone controls varying between amp heads. Yngwie currently has an endorsement deal with JJ Tesla tubes/valves and uses the E34L, to view the endorsement ad click HERE. Yngwie has used this amp as long as he has been in the spotlight and has said "Over the years virtually every amp manufacturer in the world has asked me to try their amps...I'd rather pay for a Marshall than get the others for free". If you get to try one of these amps do not expect hi gain by any means, these amps are relatively clean sounding and only start getting into major overdriven sounds when slammed with an overdrive booster pedal. Even then these amps are much cleaner in sound than say a Boogie Rectifier, Soldano SLO, Peavey 5150 or newer Marshalls like the JCM900 and JCM2000's. A lot of Yngwie sound comes from the sheer volume and mic placement. ██████████████████████████████████████████████████████████ https://www.amptone.com/g153.htm https://www.mikesguitarsite.co.uk/gear/metallica/ :aggre: :aggre: :aggre: :aggre:
He just says that the Amp sounds Clean which he means that it's not a very grainy amp as others. His gain level is still enormously high and also he uses the boost a lot too. Just check out his tone clearly, especially in the Live ones and you will understand the amount of gain. His Clean thing says about Grainy and Non Grainy types...Volume at 10 and he totally cranks up the Marshall head for it's fullest gain output..
you know actualy malmstten is a good example of how Single coils can rock on distortion... he might be using humcancelling dimarzios ( that are low output), but they still have that trade mark single coil tone. Its only the hum that is cancelled .
